News Letter for the 19th November 2001
TO ALL FAMILIES 19th November 2001

WELCOME
Well, it finally seems that the poor weather of the first four weeks is behind us and today will be what normally expects of this time of year. Or have I spoken too soon.

INFORMATION
For those who are new tonight, we have copies of basic information in the office to give out about the athletic competitions available for the children and the fees by age group. Proof of children's ages(such as Plunket Book) will be required with enrolment forms.

UNIFORMS
Because on increases in the price of materials, the cost of shorts is now $22.00 and the shirts are $20.00. We also sell club T-shirts (a white shirt with the club logo) - see Dianne Larsen for details. Last year the cost was $10.00 each. We place an order with the supplier every time we have 10 confirmed orders from parents.

COLGATE GAMES
At this stage, we have 24 children going to the North Island Colgate Games of 4-6 January at Wanganui. If anyone wants to go to the South Island Colgate Games of 11-13 January at Blenheim, please see us at the office.

RAFFLE
The club have organised its own raffle, something we have not been required to do in the past but now needed to do to help club travel funds and pay for the increased charges at Porritt Stadium. The tickets are not expensive and it will be drawn in three weeks. Please support it. Printing of the tickets were kindly sponsored by John Walker Printers, Norton Road.

TRAINING
Hamilton Hawks have invited our 12-14 year olds to their coaching sessions on a regular basis. This Wednesday, from 5.30-6.30pm, they will be concentrating on Long Jump and Discus training. If any of our older children missed out on a copy of their coaching programme and the names of the coaches, please see me.

Thank you to Dennis Flitten of Hamilton Hawks for assisting with the shot put last week. One important safety measure he passed on was that children are to stay behind the shot put circle, not to the side or in front of it. If you are an age-group manager tonight, please keep this in mind. COACH EDUCATION
Two courses have been arranged for our area. A sprint course will be held on 25 November (this Sunday) and a long jump course on 9 December. Even if you do not have a Level 1, the club will subsidise you so that it is $15.00 for everyone. This opportunity is too good to pass up and will be useful in helping your children in later years. For confirmation and more information, contact Don Willoughby at 827 8051 / 025 757 523. Copies of the entry forms are attached to this newsletter. If you are going to attend, let them know beforehand. Then they will then have enough printed material and you will not miss out.

COMMITTEE
A reminder that there will be a committee meeting on Wednesday night.

RIBBON DAY
Last Saturday, the Ribbon Day was at Papamoa. We had 26 children present, and Fairfield parents did some timekeeping and assisted at the shot put. The weather was fine, but a shower came across at lunchtime. This Saturday, the Ribbon Day is at Te Awamutu, inside their cycling stadium [Elizabeth Park]. For those viewing this newsletter on E-mail, head to the roundabout in the town centre, west through their shopping centre, left along Bank Street and past their swimming pool for almost a kilometre until Armstrong Street on the right. It is only a short street - if early, park inside the stadium or else park in Armstrong Street or Bank Street.

The Ribbon Day of 1 December will be at the Paeroa Domain - a map will be provided with next week's newsletter.
