part 1: the "Beli Mawr Pedigree"

                THE "BELI MAWR PEDIGREE"

01. BELI "MAWR" ["THE GREAT"] stands at the top of some medieval versions of the genealogy of the Old British Royal House. He is supposed to have reigned circa 400-375BC. The events recorded in the historical record of the capture of Rome by the Celts in circa 390BC harmonize perfectly with the story of the Iron Age British King Beli "Mawr" [= "The Great"] given by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his "Historia", for which one may conclude that Beli "Mawr" was an historical figure. He is apparently to be identified with the Celtic King Belinus (Belgios), who, with his brother Brennus (Brennos), captured Rome about 390BC.

Legend says that Beli Mawr was the father of two sons,

(2a) Lludd I, and

(2b) Llefelys,

and three daughters,

(2c) Formosa,

(2d) Arianrhod, &

(2e) Finuala.

02. LLUDD I, son, King of Britain c 375-350

[the name of his bro, "Llefelys" [var.: Levelez; Leueeis] is clearly based on a scribal misreading of "Leueeis", the Norman-French form of the name "Louis"] Legend says that Lludd I was the father of two sons:

(3a) Gwryth (Gwrwst; Garwst) and

(3b) Galamh (Milidh), one of three strong candidates to be identified with Milesius, who founded Ireland’s national-dynasty

03. GWRYTH (GWRWST; GARWST), son, King of Britain c 350-325BC

is mis-identified by Geoffrey of Monmouth with the 5th century AD British king Gurgust "Barbtruc", who is identified with Gorst "Farfdrwch" in the "Gwyr-y-Gogledd Genealogy"; his bro, Galamh (Milidh), married the daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh Nectanebo II (360-343BC), which indicates diplomatic intercourse between Britain and the Mediterranean nations during this time

Legend says that Gwryth (Gwrwst; Garwst) married [name], dau of Bethides, Britain's Greek Governor, then, Emperor, son of Percefus, Greek Governor of Britain, and begot

04. PYR (PERYDD) (PIR), son, King of Britain c 325-300BC

son of the late British king Gwryth ["Perydd ap Gwryth"] and possibly a Greek princess, for his name appears to be a "celticized" Greek name

05. CAPOIR , son, King of Britain c 300-275BC

[also] stands at the top of some medieval versions of the genealogy of the Old British Royal House. He appears as the "ancestor-figure" in some versions of the genealogy of Britain’s royal house, which means that he was a great and renown king whose story was doubtless the subject of a lost British tale

06. DIGUEILLUS, son, King of Britain c 275-225BC; was the British king who submitted to Gallic vassalage at the time of the invasion and conquest of Britain by the Gauls/Gaels, circa 250BC; the father of three sons:

(7a) HELI [I] (225BC) (below),

(7b) MILE (225BC), &

(7c) KIAN (225BC) (below), who reigned together as co-kings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

note: (7c) KIAN (225BC) (above), was the father of three sons:

(8a) LUGH I, the Welsh "Lugh ap Kian", may possibly be identified with Lleu "Llaw Gyffes" (200BC),

(8b) NWYVRE (200BC), &

(8c) DYLAN (200BC), who reigned together as co-kings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

07. HELI [I] (225BC) (above), was the father of three sons:

(8a) LLUDD II (below),

(8b) NEMED II [Nemo], &

(8c) [name], un-named third son, who reigned together as co-kings until the expulsion of the 3rd son by his two older bros. The un-named third son may possibly identified with Cas "The Exile" (below)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

08. LLUDD II (LUD) (above), King of Britain c 200BC, was the father of

(9a) Ivor (Eborcus) (Iovir) (below)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

09. IVOR (EBORCUS) (IOVIR) (above), King of Britain c 175/150BC

10. [name], son, King of Britain c 150/125BC

11. [name], son, King of Britain c 125/100BC

12. [name], son, King of Britain c 100/ 75BC

13. AEDD MAWR, c. 75/50 BC, see "Aedd Mawr Pedigree"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(continued from above)

08. CAS "THE EXILE", fl. 200/175BC, parentage unsure, possibly the un-named brother of Lludd II & Nemed II (above), or possibly an exiled prince from another British royal house. The spelling of his name is unknown. "Cas[...]" are the first three letters of his name, and the other letters are lost. He may be identified with either: (a) the un-named brother of the British kings Lud [Lludd II] and Nemo [Nemed II] who was expelled by them, which is probably the correct identification and would make him a Brutiad prince; (b) the son of the Gallic prince Noe[...], the son of either Brennus [Bran] or Belgios [Beli], two brothers, the sons of the Gallic king Akichorix (275/225BC), which would mean if this identification was true that Cas[...] was not an exile from Britain, but rather an exile from Gaul which is the reverse of what is generally believed to be the case; or (c) the son of Dua[ch] "The Dark", the last king of the Irish "Tuathe-De", or "Fir-De", i.e., the "People of God", who fell in battle fighting the invading Gaels, about 250BC; and, if this identification was true, then, it would mean that Cas was not a Brutiad prince, but descended from one of the contemporary Irish dynasties.

09. HUU "THE MIGHTY", son, the Welsh Hw "Gadarn", also identified with Hu "Ysgwn", or Hu "The Great" (Hugonius Magnus), in some early British folk tales. His name translates into French as Hugo "The Strong" or Hugh "Le Fort". He is called the "1st" Cymric King, or "1st" king of the Kymri. Huu "The Mighty" conquered Southern England at the time of the Gallo-Belgic Migration, circa 150BC. He is reckoned the founder of a new dynasty, or the founder of a new branch of the old dynasty.

10. LUGIOS "THE SHINING ONE" (LUGORIX; LUGOVES), aka LUG[H] II (LUGH II "LAMFHOTA"), identified with GM's LOCRINE, son, King of Britain c 150-100BC

was one of Britain’s great legendary kings; one of the (so-called) "barbarian kings" who fought the Romans on the European continent in the "Second Celtic Storm" (113-101BC)

part 2: the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree"

                The "Aedd Mawr Pedigree"

The "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" upon analysis was discovered to have not been one lineage, but rather four separate genealogical tracts put together by an unknown medieval cleric to make one long lineage.

From bottom to top the first genealogical tract of the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" comprise generations # 1-4.

[#1] Aedd, whose name is an abbreviation of a name beginning with "Aedd…". His epithet "Mawr" [= "The Great"] suggests that the legends about him in Celtic Mythology may have an historical basis .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

note: In a medieval genealogical tract Aedd Mawr is called the son of Anthun, which is the British spelling of "Anthony", thus, it has been conjectured that Aedd Mawr was the "barbarian king" whom Antonia, dau of Mark Anthony [the Roman general & triumvir, who supposedly also campaigned in Britain] divorced to marry an "eastern king" [Pytho of Tralles]. The gloss in the tract where the first-century BC figure Anthun is called the son of "Seiriol [Seisyllt] ap Gurgust", who appears as a sixth-century AD British figure in the "Gwyr-y-Gogledd Genealogy" is an error made by a medieval genealogist who must have been attempting to reconcile various genealogical data. It appears that Aedd "Mawr" re-married, for the name of his wife in legend is Caer, which is similar in spelling to Cesair, one of three in Celtic Mythology who bore that name. It is upon this basis that she is identified with Caesara, the supposed natural daughter of Julius Caesar and the British Queen Cordelia.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[#2] Prydein, son, may be identified with GM's Brutus II "Green-Shield", upon whose death

the kingdom [Northern England] was divided into three parts by his three sons, (a) Annyn "Tro", LINE-A (b) Leil "Ici", LINE-B, & (c) Evalh "Cor", LINE-C:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LINE-A

[#3A] Annyn "Tro", the 1st born, whose portion was that which corresponds to Northumbria; begot

[#4] Selys Hen, is the last of his line in the pedigree because the next segment is a series of generations that can definitely be identified with a genealogical-tract found in Bartrum’s "Early Welsh Genealogical Tracts". His dau

[5] Aregwedd "Voeddawg", aka, the historical British queen Carmandua [there are variant spellings of her name] is omitted in the pedigree

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LINE-B

[#3B] Leil (Lleon) "Ici", the 2nd born, whose portion corresponds to East Anglia; was the father of

[4B] Rhun "Hudibras" [Run "Paladyr Bras"], who,

by his 1st wife begot

[5B1] Bodvoc (Bywdec) (Buddig), a dau, aka the historical British queen Boadicea (Boudicca);

and, by his 2nd wife begot

[5B2] Blad[ud] [II], a son, the father of [6B] Llyr II

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LINE-C

[#3C] Evalh (Evelac) "Cor", the 3rd born, whose portion corresponds to Mercia, was the father of

[4c] Uippe, aka the historical Vepoccomes, the father of

[5c] Volisios [whose brothers were Cartivello & Tigirseno], the father of

[6c] Dumnocoveros (Dyfynfarch), the father of

[7c] Venutius (Enuit; Enaid), deposed by the Romans AD55 (d71), the father of

[8c] Vernicus, the first "Dux Britanniarum" (AD72), the father of

[9c] Julius Briganticus, the 2nd "Dux Britanniarum" (fl.c.AD100),

the ancestor of

[22c] Uchdryd "Wledic", Dux Britanniarum" (d495), father of

[23c] Mwng "Mawr Drefydd", King of Yorkshire (d505), father of

[24c] Gwibei (Gwylri) "Drahog", King of Yorkshire (d547), father of

[25c] Queen Bernoc, heiress

wife of Ida "Great-Knee" [Eda "Glynvawr"], "1st" King of English Northumbria]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second genealogical tract of the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" comprise generations # 5-13. It is a descent-line taken from the "Beli & Anne Pedigree", that is, the pedigree of Beli [the epithet "Mawr" was added by a medieval copyist who mistook Prince Beli with King Beli "Mawr"], and, his wife Anne, of whom it is said in the text that she was the "step-daughter", or "cousin", or "niece", of "The Virgin" Mary, hence, here begins another genealogical tract with

[#5] Brwt, variants of whose name include: Brutus; Brywlais; Brychwain, Britguenni; Brithguein, Brictogenios, Britannicus. He may be identified with Brutus (Britannicus), the son of Amerita, the daughter of "Old King Cole" (Coilus), that is, Cole "Hen" [reigned AD95-154], who is not to be confused with King Cole II (d305) [the father of St Helena], nor with King Cole III "Godebog" (c AD420). Brwt (Brywlais, etc.) had three sons, who were: [6A] Cymryw (below), [6B] Difwng, & [6C] Alafon (Lluan; Lain).

the lineage given in the pedigree, generations # 6-13, is that of

[#6] Cymryw (above), the father of

[#7] Ithon [Ithon ap Cymryw]

[#8] Gweyrydd

[#9] Peredur

[#10] Llyfeinydd

[11] Gorwst, has been omitted in "MC" between generations # 10 & # 11

[#11/12] Teuged "Ddu"

[#12/13] Llarian "Vwyn"

[#13] Ithel, this segment of the genealogy ends here; his descendants unrecorded in the pedigree are found in another genealogical-tract

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it is supposed that [#13] Ithel (above) was the father of

[14] Rhivon "Mor"

[15] Mygnach "Gor"

[16] Dylan "Draws"

[17] Maeldaf "Hnaef"

[18] Taredd "Wledic"

[his sis, Meddyf, wife of Cadwel "Lauhir", who, by a "tryst" with King Arthur, was the mother of Maelgwn "Gwynedd", who spawned a dynasty of early Welsh kings]

[19] Trwyth "Wledic"

[20] sons

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The third genealogical tract of the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" comprise generations #14-22, which give the "lost descent" of the Arthurian Dynasty. This is an important genealogical tract. Had it not been inserted into the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree", it would probably not have survived the vicissitudes of time, and we would lack a large piece of Early British History.

[#14] Enir "Fardd", is to be identified with King Arthur’s son, Anir or Enir (Am[ha]r), who is mentioned in the "Triads". Anir/Enir ["Am[ha]r": another variant of his name] predeceased his father, but was survived by a young son, Catraut, or Cadrod, whose epithet was "Calchwynydd" [the name of a fort]. Here, Enir is called the father of Calchwynydd, which establishes a genealogical-link from King Arthur.

[#15] Calchwynydd is not the name of a person but is the epithet of Cadrod "Calchwynydd", the son of [#14] Enir/Anir (above)

[#16] Llywarch of the "Aedd-Mawr Pedigree" is often confused with Llywarch "Hen" of the "Gwyr-y-Gogledd Genealogy", however, he is to be identified with the Llywarch in the "Rhodri Mawr Pedigree", which makes the Welsh king Rhodri "Mawr" a direct descendant of King Arthur; and establishes another Arthurian descent-line.

[#17] Idwal "Valch"

[#18] Rhun

[#19] Bleddyn

[#20] Morgan

[#21] Berwyn

[#22] Geraint "Feddw", the "King of Britons", reigned 704-712, who fought King Ine, of Wessex, in 711.

This segment of the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" ends here for reasons unknown; for Geraint "Feddw" was the father of three sons, namely, (23a) Yvor (Iovir) (d692), the resistance-leader who fought the Anglo-Saxons, (23b) Efrawg (Efrog) (below), & (23c) Bran (d728).

[23] Efrawg (Efrog) (above) [called Philip[pon] in medieval romance], regained the British throne in 726 and reigned three years, 726-729; and, was survived an only child, a daughter, [24] Galaes

[24] Galaes [called Meliadice in medieval romance], succeeded her father (above) and reigned seven years as Queen of Britain, 729-735. Her story appears to be confused with the story of presumably a distant-cousin, Aeron, who, in the "Tales of Aeron", is Queen of Britain, and the heiress of King Arthur’s royal house; or else Aeron is just another name for Galaes in medieval romance.

= [name], an Anglo-Saxon prince

[25] Cwilyn, heir, mur

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fourth genealogical tract of the "Aedd Mawr Pedigree" comprise generations # 23-34. The generations # 23 [Brywlais] through # 34 [Llyr], may be found in P. C. Bartrum's "Early Welsh Genealogical Tracts". Brywlais [#23] is identified with Brwt [# 5] (above), and here is given another descent-line from the "Beli and Anne Pedigree" that is also found in Bartrum's "Tracts". As noted above [#23] Brywlais [id. with # 5 Brwt, above] had three sons, namely, [24A] Cymryw, [24B] Difwng, & [24C] Alafon.

the descent-line of [24C] Alafon is given here in generations # 23-34

[#24] Alafon (Lluan; Lain), son, the father of

[#25] Annyn, is identified with Annyn "Ddv Vrenin Groec" (d196)

[#26] Dingad

[#27] Greidiol, is identified with Cridol "Galofydd" (fl. c 258)

[#28] Geraint

[#29] Meirion, which include: Morurun; Meriran; Meryran; Morfran

[#30] Arch

[#31] Kait (Caid)

[32] Serfyn (Secwyn) is omitted in pedigree between generations # 31 & # 32

[#32/33] Cerl, is identified with Keri "Hir Lyngwyn", King of Esyllwg

[#33/34] Baran, is identified with Barar (Barruc: Barrwg; Berroc), a regional-king who gave Berkshire his name

[#34/35] Llyr, the pedigree ends with him. He may be identified with the Llyr in the "Bonedd Y Arwyr Pedigree" and with the Llyr in the pedigree in "Mostyn MS 117", who is identified with Llyr "Llediaith", the father of

[36] St. Bran "Fendigaid", the father of "a" Cerdic (Caradoc; Karadoc), who may possibly be identified with

[37] Cerdic ["of Wessex"] whose identity is unsure. If identified with Cerdic of Wessex, then, the genealogical tract would represent an alternative to the ancestry of Cerdic of Wessex given in the "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle", which pedigree has already been shown to have been an invention given to the "Briton" king Cerdic of Hampshire [identified with Cerdic of Wessex] by the compilers of the medieval chronicle to make him a "Saxon" for the sake of political-correctness, according to the political climate of the time.

part 4: THE BELI & ANNE PEDIGREE

                    BELI & ANNE PEDIGREE

Beli, husband of Anne, and, the brother of Bran "The Fisher-King", the son[s] of the British ex-king Dubnovellus, has been misidentified by medieval writers with others of the same name, including: (a) Beli Mawr; (b) Heli/Beli, the father of Lludd III, Caswallawn, and Nennius; and (c) Beli, son of Dunvallo "Molmutius". Beli, or Belinus, or Belus, the son of the British ex-king Dubnovellus [Dunvallo] in exile in Rome, was the original character of Shakespeare’s Belarius. His mother, is called the daughter of a Roman emperor, Tiberius, who has mistakenly in some writings been called Anne, which is the name of Beli's wife, not his mother, though his mother’s name could have been either Annia, Antonia, Ancia, or some other Roman name which could have corrupted into Anne as ageing and deteriorating manuscripts were re-copied over and over by successive generations of medieval monks.

Beli, of his first wife, Euriphile, was childless; however, Beli, of his second wife, Anne, was the father of a son, Afallach [Evallach], who was the ancestor of several major secondary-branches of the Old British Royal House. Afallach [variations of the name include Avallac and Aballac] [Aflech = Af[al]lech/Avallach] [Aballac[h]; [A]Ballad], the Welsh "Afallach/Avallach ap BelI", the son of Beli and Anne, may be identified with Eubulus, a royal British Christian prince in Rome whose greeting St. Paul sent to Timothy during his last imprisonment (2 Tim. 4:21). His name was duplicated in some texts due to scribal error and/or corruption of the text, and Afallach was made into two persons, appearing erroneously as father and son, that is, Aflech, or Amalech, which are corruptions of Afallach’s name. Too, modern scholars generally agree that the names are doublets in those medieval manuscripts, and they are therefore the same person. Afallach has sometimes been confused with Evallach [Evelac], a heathen British king of pre-English Mercia, who appears in "L'Estoire del Saint Grail", the medieval romance, who was converted to Christianity by Joseph of Arimathea.

In an early British chronicle there is an entry which makes the extraordinary claim that Beli's wife Anne was the "[step-]daughter" of "The Virgin" Mary, mother of Jesus, whom Christians revere as God-Incarnate virgin-born of a mortal-woman as His own son. There are some scholars who for one reason or another have been inclined to dismiss the claim as invention, however, there are other scholars who upon the examination of the evidence consider the possibility that the claim may be genuine. The entry in ancient British annals reads: "mam yr Anna honno a dywedei wyr r Eifft y bot yn [oed]gyfynnithderw y Veir Vorwyn Wyry Mam Grist". Then, there is a Latin manuscript in the British Museum which reads: “qui fuit Beli ["Magni"] et Anne mater eius, quam dicunt periti consobrinam esse Marie uirginis, matris Domino nostri Ieus Christus". And, there is an early Welsh genealogical fragment in the "Harleian" collection which traces the ancestry of British Royalty from "The Virgin Mary" [Maria Virgo] as the descendants of her "daughter", called Anne in apocryphal literature. Anne, the wife of the British prince Beli, has been identified with, variously: (a) one of the so-called "sisters" of Jesus (Mt. 13:56), whom Helvidius says was one of the later children of Joseph and Mary, however, Hieronymius says that she the "foster-daughter" of Joseph and Mary, who fostered the children of Joseph’s brother, Ptolas [not Clopas], after his death, while Epiphanius says that she was the daughter of Joseph by a late first wife, Escha, his brother’s widow; (b) one of the children of Miriam [Mary], the older half-sister of Joseph and his younger brothers, Ptolas and Clopas, the twins, the widow of Theudas, also of royal Jewish ancestry; or (c) another daughter of Joseph of Arimathea, which story entered medieval romance. The exact genealogical-link of Anne to "The Holy Family" is debatable, nevertheless, the fact remains that Anne was connected to The Holy Family by some family-tie. Anne is also called the "cousin" or "niece" of "The Virgin" Mary in some texts, however, Sophronius of Jerusalem says that Anne was The Virgin Mary's "daughter".

It was in Rome where the British Prince Beli met, fell in love, and married Anne. Too, it is said that Beli was converted to Christianity on their marriage. Legend says that Anne had come to Rome along with a party of Christians at the time of the first persecution of the Jerusalem Church, AD 35/36. The arrival of this group of Christian refugees in Rome was recorded by Cesare Baronius in his "Annales Ecclesiastici" (1596), in which he described them as traveling by ship from Judea to Rome, and, on to Marseilles from where they dispersed to other parts of the empire, while some of their numbers, among whom was Joseph of Arimathea, went to Britain. It is said that not long after the arrival of Joseph of Arimathea at Marseilles a British delegation arrived and extended an invitation to him and his party to return with them to Britain. The delegation was sent by the British prince [sub-king] Beli, the husband of Anne, who invited the Christians to Britain where they could freely practice their faith. Joseph gladly accepted the invitation, and, before his departure, was consecrated by St. Philip, who is said to have commissioned him for the mission.

The descendants of Beli and Anne developed into several major secondary-branches of the Old British Royal House during the Roman Era, which gave Britain some of its post-Roman regional-dynasties, and, through their son, Afallach, are listed in The "Triads" as one of the "three holy families" of Britain.
