Last night I caught the end of Hard Talk on BBC 24hours. The interviewer, Tim Sebastian was interviewing author and ex ABC journalist, James Bamford. He was talking about his latest book (see below) in which he reveals that in the Kennedy era the US wanted to oust Castro and annexe Cuba. The military were pushing for a full scale invasion but the government knew that the world would not wear it. Last night (3rd July) I caught the end of Hard Talk on BBC 24hours. He was talking about his latest book (see below) in which he reveals that in the Kennedy era the US wanted to oust Castro and annexe Cuba. The military were pushing for a full scale invasion but the government knew that the world would not wear it. They decided upon a more surreptitious tactic. They would sink American ships, bomb government and public buildings and aircraft and shoot American citizens in the streets then blame Cuba. Mr Bamford said he has all the documentation to prove this. The BBC man was horrified and said that it was the most outrageous plan that he had heard in 40 years. The plan was all systems go and agreed upon up to the the next in line to Kennedy (I didn't catch the man's name). This person was a civilian and scuppered the plan that had had full backing up until then. Have you heard about this? Sounds as if the tactics were still used though for different targets. A list too long to mention but I am sure that most people would be able to think of at least a dozen possibilities. The book also covers a secret US base in the Indian Ocean that is aggressively off-limits to everyone. Again I did not get the name of the islands. The book seems a fascinating read. |

ABDUCTED ANN ANDREWS AND JEAN RITCHIE If someone doesn't make a film based on this family's experiences then it will be a tragedy. Well written, their life and experiencesso warmly painted, it would make an ideal subject for some enterprising producer. I met the family before I read the book - they are a real-life Ma and Pa Larkin (from TV's Darling Buds of May). Down-to-earth, friendly and as honest as the day is long, I met them in their Lincolnshire farmhouse and also when they had a holiday in Australia. Ann is busy writing a sequel to 'Abducted', the families experiences continue and indeed have accelerated. Get yourself this book. You will be glad you did. |

THE BROTHERHOOD STEPHEN KNIGHT Don't go past this one. Stephen Knight was the pen name of Swami Puja Debal. Stephen died 18 months after this book was published at the age of 33. This is one of those books that will keep you bleary-eyed, fascinating; and although Freemasonry has vehemently condemned it, they should think themselves fortunate that he was a man of principle. Even though the book contains extraordinary revelations he kept some information back in order to further verify it. In other words he let them of the hook. Did they do the same for him?...that is the question. |

This is just as good a book. Like Mr Knight he treats the subject with honesty and courtesy. A rivetting read that students of Freemasonry will not leave out of their library. |
THE CULT OF THE BLACK VIRGIN EAN BEGG Mr Begg goes in search of the numerous 'black virgins' that decorate and used to decorate the churches of Europe. Many of these statues pre-date Christianity and are in truth representations of more ancient goddesses, such as Diana and Isis. A must for the serious researcher. |
