Salvador Dali was born in Figueras Spain on May 11th 1904. He had his first exhibition in 1918. In 1921 he joined the academy of arts in Madrid. He had his first solo exhibition in 1925 in Barcelona. In 1926 Dali made his first trip to Paris and met Picasso. In 1929 he seduced Paul Eluard's (a fellow surrealist) wife, which caused his father to break off contact with him. Around 1930 he evolved his paranoiac-critical method of painting. In 1932 he held the first surrealist exhibition in the USA. In 1938 Dali visited Freud in London, and subsequently draws a number of portraits of him.

Then in 1939 the surrealist movement expelled Dali from there ranks. In 1940 Dali and his wife Gala moved to New York. In 1971 the DALI MUSUEM opens in Cleveland Ohio, with the E. and A. Reynolds Morse collection, which is eventually transferred to St. Petersburg Florida, it's current location. In 1982 his wife Gala died. Then in 1989, still suffering from the loss of his beloved wife, Dali suffers heart failure and dies. His 130 million dollar estate was willed to Spain, to be divided evenly between Madrid and Figueras.
