Strict Restriction

When a sufferer of Anorexia Nervosa begins to recover, the individual may often become scared of the food that they must eat in order to gain or maintain weight. The victim may consciously or unconsciously restrict calories in order to keep control over their weight. Repeatedly, this calorie restrict is too steep and can send to patient's body back into a starvation mode, causing all organs to shut down and permanent damage to result. It is best to constantly remind the individual that the food in which they consume will only help them when eaten enough to maintain or gain weight, as the case may be. Patients of anorexia regularly feel guilty for having eaten, but taking their mind off of food after a meal is the best thing. Try to talk with sufferer, or if you yourself are suffering, find something to occupy yourself. Read a book, draw a picture, work in the garden, or perhaps take part in an easy physical activity such as moderate walking for a half hour, or playing with the dogs. Most problems occur with anorexics when they are alone. The mind begins to wander, and sometimes to not such good places. It would be wise to grab the phone and talk with someone, keeping yourself occupied with another person makes it hard for negative thoughts to enter your mind.
