Every Time I die - "Last Night In Town"
Ferret Records (2001)

Every Time I Die is a band that is noted for their parts that don't
make sense, but for some reason they always seem to fit. This CD has
kept the same level of aggression as the last but has improved on the
vocals by not having them as distorted. If you liked their first
release, you will defiantly like this one. If you are looking for a band
that comes at you from all directions, this is your band. Very tech /
math-metal at its finest. When I saw this band for the first time, they
spent $80 on party supplies, just to have them thrown all over the place
for 3.5 seconds of pure fun. You will not be let down with their live
performance, it goes perfect with their attitude that they express
through their music. "Last Night In Town" is one
of the best hardcore CD's of the year.

Carry On - "A Life
Less Plagued"
Bridge 9 (2001)

The scenester talk was all about carry on
and how they would be the next big thing. Cro-mags, ten yard fight,
blood for blood, had all had their time. It came time for them to move
over with the bridge 9 release of a life less plagued. I will probably
be attacked by a mad crew of Boston hardcore kids for mentioning carry
on and ten yard fight in the same review. I think that this band
deserves a lot of credit for this album. 12 tracks all in your face,
energy and emotion included. I found by even the end of the album I was
wanting more, a sign that this CD will keep the hardcore fan interested
in hearing releases to come from this east oops I mean west coast band.

No warning - [st]
Brdige 9 (2001)

Boston, no wait Toronto hardcore kids No
warning have brought us the bridge 9 release of their first lp (self
titled). If you have seen this band live, this album will not
disappoint. A lot of albums seem to lose a step from a live show but no
warning, have captured it all on this album. Taken from previous 7”
releases and throw in a few bonus tracks, this album will have you
throwing your own mother in the pit. Tough, this cd tough? Not a chance.
Fucking brutal yes that’s more like it.

Blink 182 – "Take Off
You Pants and Jacket"
MCA Records (2001)

So, what can I say about this cd? When I think of blink I think of 94/95
days and how much I had fun when I was listening to carousel, and m&m’s all
day long. Blink 182 has come a long way since those days, with 3 albums which all have sold millions of copies, numerous videos and popularity that
I sure wouldn’t be able to live with. Blink 182 has taken punk music to
where a lot of us probably didn’t’ think it would ever go, sure maybe there
antics and stupidness took them there a lot faster or easier, but their music isn’t something to ignore. Blink has always kept a steady music style
that hasn’t changed since there early days, which is a good thing, maybe a
few songs here and there but over all they have kept it to what got them
where they are today. ‘take off your pants and jacket’ was hyped up like
crazy in the summer of 2001, and I expected just the same ol blink and a
pretty good cd. With all the songs and all the simple riffs that they have
wrote in the last 8 years, you would never think that they had anything left in them, well this cd
shows just how much these boys know how to write the PERFECT punk cd. Blink 182 has released probably the best
poppy or whatever you want to call it punk cd in a long time. This cd has brought
back what I use to love about these guys. Who cares about all the money and
all the fame. If you have listened to this cd you will realize that they are
this big for a reason; great music. ‘take off your pants and jacket' is a cd
that everyone should have, so if you don’t have it already, get off your ass
and get it. Best punk cd of 2001 hands down.

Kill
your idols - "funeral for a feeling" LP
Side One Dummy Records (2001)

I
picked up this album on a recent trip to mass. I had never heard much
from this band until I saw them that weekend. The first thing I noticed
about this cd and also the live show is the distinctive voice the singer
has. You either really like it, or you can’t stand it. I was unsure if
I was going to buy the cd after I saw the show. I made my way over to
the merch table and dished out the cash. It was a decent buy but after a
while it sorta seems monotonous and drags on for 17 tracks. I might have
given this cd more skulls on the scale if it was maybe 12 tracks long.
All in all good live band…. decent album.

Piebald
– "the rock revolution will not be televised" EP
Big Wheel Recreation (2001)

Piebald
is back. This album I was confused about. It differs from the older
piebald music I was used to. The early days of piebald seemed more
screamy or emotional compared to this ep. Catchy lines “HEY YOU’RE
PART OF IT” and radio friendly guitar riffs. Any album with songs
written about the problems of van halen sort of maybe makes me think
this band might be running out of ideas I could be wrong. I’ll admit I
do like this ep. The last song on this collection is an acoustic balled
you may find yourself humming to at work all day long hah!

Waterdown – 'never kill the
boy on the first date'
Victoryrecords (2001)
No skulls
Well victory does it again. This was a cd
that I was voting as a possible best of 2001. With the songs that were
on their first ep released on a German label you could tell that these
guys have it in them to be a great band. When I heard that The guys from
grade got them on Victory records because of a few shows that they
played with them in Europe I was wondering just how good they were, I
mean there songs were ok, but good enough for being on victory records
after being together for not even a year. Well this is where the
expectations of Victory records has lowered tremendously. Terrible cd, I
listened to it when I got home for buying it and I could believe what I
was listening to. No flow at all, every song has way to many ideas in
them. They are trying to fit every kind of music into one song, and they
do it terribly. Pick a style and stick to it, or don't' do it at all. I
would have to say that this is the biggest let down in hardcore in a
long time, and probably the worst cd on 2001, and what a terrible layout
to go with it. Way to go Victory records.

Until the End
- 'Blood in the Ink'
Eulogy Records - 2001
This is the first full
length from Until the End and it is awesome. No real change from
the first 7-inch except they are down to only 1 singer instead of 2.
Although it seems like most of the songs are really the same song just
played twice to make up one song it doesn't take away anything from
it. The lay-out of the cd says one thing - violence,
violence, violence. And the lyrics support that even more! You can
listen to the whole cd and it never lets up.. it's non stop brutal
from beginning to end with more mosh parts then you can count! These
guys live would be the toughest thing ever. This is definitely one of
the best albums of the year and everyone should hear it... you'll love
it!

Earth Crisis - 'Forever True' (VHS)
Victory Records i assume
(2001)
When i got this i was
really excited to watch it and i was kinda disappointed. I mean..
it was alright just not as good as i hoped. It has some live stuff,
a lot of interviews and talking about the history and members of the
band, and a look into what it's like being around the band.
Personally.. i was kinda surprised how laided back they seem..
almost immature even! If you like earth crisis you'll wanna see
this. If you used to like earth crisis.. but dont' anymore.. you
still might wanna see it. If you dont' like them.. dont' bother
cuz you're not gonna like this either!
