Let there be a community amongst you who call to the good, and enjoin the right and forbid wrong. They are the ones who have success. (Qur'an 3:104)

So, what is the solution? With so many causes, motives and players weaving an endless web around one another, is there a solution at all?

"A Plea for Enlightened Moderation" by Pervez Musharraf (President of Pakistan)

Thankfully, the answer is yes. President Musharraf's strategy of enlightened moderation is certainly a step in the right direction on a long and arduous journey. Simultaneously, Islam - true Islam; the Islam of millions - must be projected over the Islam of a handful. The millions must play their part; they need to raise their voice and crush this ulcer before it spreads. The West must strive for a final, peaceful and equitable resolution of the conflicts it has been involved in - and caused in to a great extent. As Musharraf points out, it is Muslims that are at the receiving end in almost all cases.

Only if the above is sincerely implemented can the problem be solved. If this is not done, mankind might indeed witness the clash of civilisations many experts currently denounce.

Say: "Come, and I will recite to you what your Lord has forbidden for you": that you do not associate anything with Him; that you are good to your parents; that you do not kill your children because of poverty--We will provide for you and them; that you do not approach indecency - outward or inward; that you do not kill any person God has made inviolate - except with the right to do so. That is what He instructs you to do, so that hopefully, you will use your intellect. (Qur'an 6:151)
