BROKEN WING

An angel with a broken
wing
that's what some people say,
but they don't understand
how she came to be that way.
The wing wasn't really
broken
just tired from all the strain,
she was holding on for dear life
her strength she tried to regain.
Her heart was what was
broken
from years of brutal abuse
look close you could see the footprints
a doormat worn and well used.
But she vowed she
wouldn't leave him
she hoped one day he'd change
she just pulled her babies closer
each time he went into a rage.
She cried alone in the
darkness
where no one else could see
and she talked to the only one
who had been there for her needs.
Then one evening in a
drunken stupor
with only one thing on his mind
he found she wasn't alone
someone was sitting by her side.
He growled and asked her
harshly
what a stranger was doing there
she replied with a weary smile
he came my wing to repair.
He watched as the
stranger lifted
the woman he had battered and bruised
and softly straightened her crooked wing
then gently turned her loose.
She soared above the tree
tops
straight to the sky above
he realized then he had lost her
the woman he had really loved.
as the sweat beaded on
his forehead
he awoke from his horrible dream
with a voice so meek, he began to speak
Please forgive me, let ME help you with
that wing.
The wing has now been
mended
their life has a brand new start
every day he erases a foot print
no more walking on her heart.
