WAS A LITTLE ON THE THIN SIDE WHEN IT COMES TO ROUTINES AND FUNCTIONALITY. INSTEAD OF USING AN AFTER MARKET APPLICATION OR UPGRADING TO LEGOS ROBOLAB, I DECIDED TO SEE WHAT COULD BE SQUEEZZED OUT OF THE ris2.0 SOFTWARE.
A FEW OF THE THINGS RIS 2.0 HAS PROBLEMS WITH INCLUDE-
-LIMITED SUPPORT OF VARIABLES (ONLY 32 USING STANDARD PROGRAM INTERFACE AND FIRMWARE)
-NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT FOR THE USE OF MATHAMATICAL CALCULATIONS WITH THE VARIABLES,
ONLY BASIC SINGLE FUNCTIONS CAN BE PERFORMED (BUT YOU COULD DO MANY SINGLE CALCULATIONS.)
-BIG BLOCKS SEEM TO BE INHERIANTLLY BUGGED, DOUBLING THEM SELVES EVERY TIME YOU RELOAD THE SAME PROGRAM YOU WROTE.
(THIS IS ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS OF THE ris 2.0 AND AS A RESAULT ITS OF MY OPINION THAT YOU SHOULDNT USE THEM )
-THE TEST FEATURE FOR FUNCTIONS IN THE INTERFACE ACTUALLY OVERWRITES SLOT ONE SO YOU SHOULD LEAVE THIS LOCKED UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED THE ROOM FOR ANOTHER PROGRAM.
-LIMITED CONTROL OF SENSOR INPUT, NO INBUILT GUI SUPPORT FOR THE RAW DATA FROM INPUT PORTS ON THE RCX.
THIS RAW DATA IS SOME OF THE MORE USEFUL INFOMATION YOU CAN USE BUT THE FIRMWARE AND GUI DONT ALLOW IT TO USED AS DATA IN A PROGRAM.
-THE DEFAULT FIRMWARE IS TOO LARGE (AROUND 10K) FOR THE 32KB OF MEMORY ONBOARD.
THIS IS DUE TO THE INCLUSION OF DATA REQUIRED TO RUN THE BLOCKS IN THE GUI
BUT I STILL NOW OWN THREE RCXS AS EVEN AFTER ALL THIS THEY ARE ONE OF THE EASIEST WAYS TO BEGIN ROBOTICS.
