The Story
This story is kind of long, but bear with it...it helps give purpose and meaning to the story behind "Operation: Letzterschutz", and we all know a game without a story is...well...just a game!

APRIL, 1945:
The war is almost over for Germany. The forces of the Third Reich are crumbling under the onslaught of allied forces. For Hitler and his closest officers, their days are numbered, and they are all aware of this fact. It 's just a matter of time before they are all dead or imprisoned, and just a matter of waiting for that time to come. For most of the Nazi forces, there seems to be no way out except death or imprisonment, which may well be the same thing.

Not all of Hitler's forces are content to accept an inevitable failure. Shrouded in the mist of early morning, a group of German officers assembles at a hidden U-boat dock. Silouhetted in the morning haze by the first rays of the sun stands the figure of a man. He wears the uniform of a German officer, but his battle scarred helmet testifies his belief in the glory of personal combat. The man is Wolfgang Eisenkreiger, a highly decorated officer of the Third Reich. Eisenkreiger has fought hard during the war, and he is not prepared to go quietly into the night.

Silently, Eisenkreiger walks the length of the dock, surveying the assembled officers. He nods to them as he passes, but still, not a word is spoken. Everyone present knows that from what they are about to do, there will be no return. Though the goal of their plan is the preservation of the Reich, the mission on which they are about to embark will make them fugitives in the eyes of their fellow soldiers and countrymen.

Finally, the time time has come. Eisenkreiger addresses the assembly.

"Brothers, now is the final chance for those who do not wish to go through with this mission to part company. If you choose to do so, swear to keep silent, and we will think no less of you. There is no guarantee that this operation will succeed, or that we are not heading for another kind of death than the one we would face here. To those of you who will see this through to the end, the time has come."

The men nod in agreement. Nobody moves from where they stand. All of them have made up their minds. They will follow their leader through to the end. Eisenkreiger knew this to be true from the beginning, and was careful about who he asked to be a part of this mission. Only the truest and most loyal men could be trusted with the success of the operation. Again he speaks...

"It is not out of fear of the enemy or desire for preservation of ourselves as individuals that we undertake this mission, rather, it is for the preservation of the Third Reich and that for which it stands that drives us on our way. It is true that the Fuhrer knows nothing of our plans, but what good would come of our death during the hopeless times we face here? Indeed, it is for the preservation of his dreams that we now embark on our way to an unknown future, in the hopes of one day seeing the Fuhrer's vision through to it's ultimate end."

Though agreement is unanimous, the assembly remains silent with anticipation. Eisenkreiger nods to the men, bids farewell to the Fatherland, and without looking back, boards one of the silent waiting U-boats. Operation: Letzterschutz has begun...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MONTHS LATER...
The OSS director slid open his top desk drawer and regarded the bottle of scotch lying atop the papers and pens. There might be time for a quick nip from it...he could really use one with everything the OSS had had to deal with since the end of the war in Europe. He glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost time...he'd be here any minute, and BJ was almost never...
A quick knock at the door startled the director, and he quickly slammed the drawer shut, slid up to his desk, and folded his hands on the blotter.
"Come in. It's open."
The door opened, and in walked BJ Blazkowicz, clad in his military dress fatigues. It was an outfit he'd worn very little during his time as a secret agent during the war, and until recently, an OSS agent. BJ made his way to the desk, shook the director's hand, and took a seat across from him.
"You wanted to see me, sir?"
The director nodded, and motioned to an envelope BJ was holding marked "classified". "Have you read that yet?"
BJ shook his head. "No, I just received it. I was told you would cover the basics with me. What's going on?"
The director cleared his throat and began...
"Well, as you know, since the war ended there have been numerous attempts to revive the Nazi party, and an equal number of efforts to stop these attempts. You should be aware of that...you were involved in most of those efforts. So far, we've had good success tracking down and stopping most of these obscure plots. Somehow, we let a big one slip by...and there's no telling if OSS intervention will be enough and in time, or if we're on the verge of another war."
BJ frowned and glanced at the envelope. "Sounds bad."
"It is bad", agreed the director, "And the fact that we failed to detect this operation up til now makes us look even worse. Why, if things hadn't happened just as they have to this point, there's a chance we could have a full fledged militant army lead by the Nazis right under our noses ready to strike at any time."
The OSS director opened his desk drawer and pulled a photograph from a file, and handed it to BJ.
BJ looked at the man in the photo. "Who's this? He doesn't look familiar."
"That's Wolfgang Eisenkreiger, one of Hitler's former officers, and a very resourceful soldier. He received numerous decorations during the war, and has always been obsessed with the glory of man to man combat over the use of bombs and modern 'smart' weapons. We had our eye on him during the war as a potential threat, but after the war in Europe ended, he basically vanished from the face of the earth. We just assumed the man had been killed in action and that it was never reported, which did turn out to be the case with several of the other individuals we were monitoring. Eisenkreiger's not dead, though. He's very much alive, and is a very real threat at the moment."
BJ glanced at the photo again. "So where is he then?"
The director shook his head. "We don't know exactly. But here's what we do know. Some time prior to the defeat of Hitler, Eisenkreiger and a scientist named Emmet Von Braun decided it was time to get out of Germany while the getting was still good. Von Braun is a scientific genius...he was working on Germany's version of the Manhattan Project, and was getting pretty close to developing a nuclear weapon for their country. Thankfully, he quit the project when he fled. He's dangerous, though...there's no telling for what he might use his vast scientific knowledge in the company of Eisenkreiger."
"Anyhow, Eisenkreiger and Von Braun assembled a corps of their most trusted officers, and some soldiers formerly of the SS. They secretly gathered a fortune in treasure from civilians the Nazis had plundered, including some of Hitler's personal store, and loaded it onto three submarines in which they had arranged to defect. After that, they just disappeared, and we're not sure where exactly they went. Rumor has it that even they didn't know where they were going until they got there. At any rate, they remained hidden until a couple of weeks ago, when they reportedly returned to Germany."
BJ frowned. "Why go to all of that trouble to escape from Germany like that, only to return months later and risk capture? The Nazis are still being sought out and captured, and Germany isn't a safe place for them to return to. After what they did, even their own people must hate them."
The director nodded. "You're right...they risked a lot doing what they did. We don't know what their reasons were, but it doesn't matter. The fact remains that many Germans and former Nazis know what they did, and hate them for abandoning the country during the way, believing them to be traitors to their own party and country. Believe it or not, though, they didn't return with the intention of staying, and actually hoped to avoid contact with their countrymen altogether. Apparantly, their fortune in treasure is running out, and they came back after a stash they left behind for just such a situation."
Blazkowicz looked momentarily confused. "If the the Germans took the fortune reported to have been taken, they must have had millions of dollars worth of treasure. Where are they spending it, and what are they spending it on that's using it up so quickly?"
The director frowned. "That's the bad news. We're not entirely sure how they're using the money. We do, however, have a rough idea of where it's being spent. A couple of weeks ago, while on an unrelated assignment, one of our agents in Germany was contacted by an informant, who told him of some suspicous looking individuals who had been seen by the docks. We immediately dispatched him to investigate and capture one of these individuals. We had a hunch that it might be a clue to some sort of enemy activity. We were right."
The director decided to throw caution to the wind. He slid his drawer open, took out the scotch, unscrewing the lid, and taking a quick gulp. He offered the bottle to BJ, who politely refused. The director replaced the cap, cleared his throat, and continued.
"The men were South American soldiers of some sort. What they were doing in Germany was a complete mystery to us, but after a surprisingly brief interrogation, we were able to get a lot of information out of the man we had captured. Apparantly, several weeks after they fled Germany, Eisenkreiger and Von Braun appeared in South America. The soldier wasn't sure of the details of how it all happened, but somehow, Eisenkreiger and Von Braun met up with a corrupt dictator who leads a large private army in the region of the Columbian jungle. They've formed some sort of an alliance between the former Nazis and their 'police' force."
"The dictator is some sort of self-appointed regional leader, known to others only as 'El Presidente'. He has his hands in all kinds of dirty business, but up until now, he's been content to just bully and rob the civilians of the region and force them to pay him illegitimate taxes. When Eisenkreiger and Von Braun showed up with their fortune, though, he offered them the use of his army and a place to hide out in exchange for a considerable sum of the treasure. The Germans agreed to this, and they formed an army that is a hybrid of former Nazi soldiers and South American thugs. It's an unholy alliance to say the least, and one that needs to be stopped at once."
BJ nodded. "Sounds bad, but I can't imagine the Nazis used all of their fortune just to hire some South American soldiers. Where's the rest of it going?"
The director shrugged. "Well, to begin with, we know that El Presidente has helped turn the money into weapons for the Nazis, and has outfitted them with some more modern equipment. They don't call themselves the Nazis anymore, though. The three leaders, Eisenkreiger, Von Braun, and El Presidente have dubbed themselves 'The Triumvirate', and the soldiers they refer to as the 'Triumvirate Guard'. The former SS soldiers have been trained in jungle warfare in addition to their former set of "skills", and they dress for the part now, though the officers haven't changed much. But I'm getting off the track here...standard weapons still account for only a small portion of the money the treasure brings in..."
The director took another swallow of scotch, wiped his mouth on his sleeve, and continued. "This is where Von Braun comes into the picture. You see, Eisenkreiger heads the German portion of the Triumvirate, while El Presidente leads his own men, since the two armies don't always see eye to eye, and are more likely to continue following their own leaders. Von Braun doesn't really have anything to do with the leadership end of things, though...that's never been his thing. As near as we can tell, he's invested the rest of the Nazi fortune in some sort of super secret new weapon. The bad news is we have absolutely no idea what the weapon is, or how concerned we should be at the moment. If they're building an atomic bomb, then that would be bad news, but we don't think that's what it is. A bomb at this point wouldn't make sense, since as far as we know they have no way to deliver one, and their army isn't nearly large enough to fight the war that would result."
Blazkowicz nodded. "So the money they brought with them ran out then, eh? It must be something totally new to cost so much in research...if Von Braun was so close to inventing the bomb before he fled Germany, he wouldn't need that much money to research or even build one. They must have something else up their sleeves."
The director nodded. "And until we know what it is, we can't take any chances. We're not going to play around with these guys...we've got to send someone in to take them out, and it's got to be soon. It's going to be an all or nothing mission, and failure isn't an option. I'll be honest with you, BJ...I don't know what our chances are with this one. For one thing, we're not even sure from where exactly the Triumvirate is operating. The only link we have is the U-boat that returned to Germany for the rest of the treasure. Nobody has actually seen it since it returned, but the South American soldier we captured tells us that it's there, and that it only returns to the dock at night time to avoid detection. It should be long gone already, but we lucked out."
"Apparantly, the Nazis have hidden the sub in a small watery cave somewhere along the German coast, and they only leave the cave for loading purposes. Somehow, though, the last time they maneuvered into the cave, they struck some underwater rock formations, and caused some damage to the hull. The sub has been loaded and ready to go for days now, but they can't leave until the damage is repaired, and it's taking longer than expected. There's no telling how much longer, though, so we have to move quickly. If that sub leaves for South America before we've got someone on board, we may never hear from the Triumvirate again until it's too late."
Blazkowicz gave a half smile. "You keep saying 'we' and 'our'...but I have a feeling that you mean to say it's going to be me sneaking aboard the sub."
The director grinned. "Very astute, BJ. We don't really have any other choice. You're the only agent we've got at the moment who I trust with a mission this important. Our window of opportunity is very small here...we need you to sneak on board that sub, the 'Wolfram', and ride it all the way to the Triumvirate hideout in South America. From there, it's all up to you...we won't be able to offer any support of any kind, and you'll be on your own until the very end."
BJ scratched his head. "How am I supposed to get on board that sub without arousing suspicion? Do we even know it's location?"
The director nodded. "The South American soldier we captured has agreed to give us the location in exchange for asylum in the United States. We've also secured some false identification papers, and intend to disguise you as one of the dock workers helping with the loading and repairs. You can't take any guns with you, though...they search everyone, and if you were armed, it would ruin the disguise. How's your German?"
BJ grinned. "Good enough to get me in there without getting my head blown off. So when do we attempt to pull off this crazy stunt?"
The director reached under his desk and pulled out a set of grimy looking work clothes. "Right now. There's a plane outside waiting to take you to the German coast. Good luck, BJ..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BJ tried not to look at the other dock hands on board the small freight steamer. There wasn't much to see anyway, since they were travelling with their lights off. He only hoped they turned them on before they tried to make their way into the cave...being in a shipwreck in the dark of night wasn't his idea of a good time. He sat back and looked at the starless sky. The boat ride was taking a long time, and there wasn't currently anything to do but sit back and think, which BJ was trying hard not to do too much of at the moment.

BJ was trying not to think of being trapped underwater in a giant metal tube with hundreds of enemy soldiers with nowhere to run if things got ugly during the journey between Germany and South America. He was trying not to consider how me might fare in jungle combat, which he hadn't really had any experience with before, against an army of men who'd been practicing it most of their lives. Most of all, BJ tried not to think about the fact that, with the exception of the small knife he had hidden in his boot (several of the other dock workers had them as well), he was totally unarmed at the moment and definitely not among friends. Blazkowicz was no stranger to these OSP (On Site Procurement) missions, but always felt a little naked until he had his hands wrapped around the handle of a gun.

His train of thought was disrupted when the engine cut suddenly, and the boat began to slow. A spotlight was turned on and directed toward the mouth of the cave. Inside, illuminated by the beam, BJ could make out the top of the large, metallic body of the 'Wolfram'. They were there...

The unloading of the freight steamer's cargo onto the 'Wolfram' didn't take very long. BJ discovered that the ship he had just managed to sneak aboard was the last of the load and repair ships visiting the sub. Half an hour later, and the 'Wolfram' and it's crew would have been well out of their reach.

BJ helped bring in the last of the crates, and watched as the rest of the dock workers left the sub and returned to the freight steamer. An officer walked by and gave him a second look, wondering why a dock hand was still aboard the sub.

Blazkowicz grimaced. "Wo das Badezimmer ist?" he asked the officer, shifting from one leg to the other as though he was in distress. The officer frowned and motioned to a nearby door. BJ slipped inside, and hid in one of the restroom stalls for several minutes.

Nobody came to look for him. BJ assumed the steamer crew left without him, which was what he wanted. He had tried to make sure his presence during the ride over wasn't memorable, and it seemed the crew had indeed forgotten him. BJ opened the bathroom door quietly, and slipped out, heading for a storage room he'd seen near the exit.

Blazkowicz slipped inside the storage room, unaware that the officer who had directed him to the bathroom was emerging from a storage closet just across the hall. Curious as to why one of the steamer crew was still aboard the sub, the officer followed him into the storage room.

BJ was startled to hear the door open. He turned around, surprised by the officer. Despite the urge to dispatch his pursuer, he decided to play it cool just a little while longer, in the hopes of still riding out the voyage in secrecy.

"Wer sind Sie? Warum sind Sie hier?" the officer questioned sharply. Blazkowicz knew the game was up. The officer was in no mood to fool around, and BJ was pretty sure that any answer he gave would be the wrong answer.

BJ pretended to look past the officer's shoulder, pointed past him, and mumbled something unintelligable. Unbelievably, the officer fell for the trick, and turned his head. BJ seized the opportunity, grabbed his knife, clubbing the officer on the back of the head. The man let out a cry and went down like a sack of bricks, and lay there unconscious.

BJ checked his vitals. He was still alive, and there wasn't any reason to change that. He wasn't interested in killing anyone he didn't have to, and the man wasn't going to be a threat any time soon. Seeing an opportunity, BJ stripped the man of his uniform, and took his pistol and ammo. Unfortunately, the uniform didn't seem to fit. The officer was much smaller than he was, and as a result, so was the uniform. He struggled to fit into it anyway before someone caught him half dressed in the storage room.

Just then, BJ heard footsteps in the hall outside and voices talking. The guard's cry had alerted others, and they were on their way to the storage room. And there was BJ, holding a pistol and wearing the officer's too small uniform with the German lying on the floor in his underwear...this was going to look bad.

BJ checked to make sure the pistol was loaded, took a deep breath, and prepared for the worst...looked like his quiet journey to South America wasn't going to be happening after all. If he was going to save the world, he would need to get the hell out of the storage room, find some sort of map to the Triumvirate hideout, and survive the rest of the journey. And he was going to have to come out shooting...

GOOD LUCK, BJ!!

Weapons and Ammo
Obviously, if you’re going to be facing hordes of enemies, you’ll need the weapons to deal with them. There are seven different weapons in the game, and some are easier to find than others. You begin with a knife and a pistol, but you’ll need better equipment to take on the tougher enemies and especially the bosses. Here are the weapon related items you’ll find during the game.

1 – AMMO CLIP: Ammo for all the weapons you will use (besides the knife). Provides 8 bullets new and 4 if you get one from a dead enemy. Keep an eye out for them.

2 – MACHINE GUN: Rapid fire weapon, good for taking out groups of enemies. Uses ammo faster than the pistol, but a good all around weapon. The Triumvirate Guards will drop these if you kill them.

3 – HEAVY MACHINE GUN: The most powerful weapon available, this gun is ideal for all situations, except for the high rate of ammo usage. The good news is none of your enemies use these. The bad news is that you might have a hard time finding one (there are none in the first episode).

4 – THROWING KNIFE: Unlike the standard knife, this weapon can be thrown at enemies to dispatch them from a distance. Attacks with the throwing knife are silent, making it a good weapon for stealth assaults. Replenish your supply by picking up more knives.

5 – COBRA GUN: A prototype anti-tank weapon developed by Von Braun, this single shot weapon fires powerful armor piercing bullets that will level most standard enemies. It is a useful weapon for taking on more powerful enemies, and should be used sparingly. It's ammo supply is armor piercing rounds, which only work with the cobra gun.

6 – NAPALM LAUNCHER: Another prototype, this devastating weapon fires explosive balls of burning napalm that explode on impact. Anyone (inlcuding BJ) caught near the explosion will take serious damage, so don't use it in close quarters. Your ammo supply for the napalm launcher is replenished by collecting gas cans.

Health Items
Sooner or later, you’re going to take damage on your mission. When you do, you’ll want to look for health pickups. There are several different kinds, and they all have different health values. You’ll want to keep an eye out for them, especially if you’re really hurting.

HEALTH TYPES: The four different types of health are the small medkit, the bowl of food, the large medkit, and the extra life. The values of each are listed above. The extra life will also give you an ammunition bonus.

Treasure
While not quite as useful as ammo and health items, treasure can give you an extra life if you collect enough of it. These are the treasure the Nazis stole from civilians and are using to fund their operation. It’s time for you to take them back!

TREASURE TYPES: There are four different types of treasure - the cross, goblet, chest, and crown. The values of each are listed above. Keep in mind that most of the treasure in the game is hidden, so you might have to do some looking if you want to find it.

Basic Enemies
As usual, there are several different kinds of enemies you will face. Since they are based over the original enemies of Wolfenstein, recognizing which of them follow which behavior patterns will be useful to survival. There are no mutants or monsters this time around, just human enemies. Don't let that fool you, though. They're just as dangerous as ever!

1 - SOLDIER: These are the basic foot soldiers of El Presidente's private army. They are trained in the basics of handling a gun, but that's about it. They wear no protective armor, so a couple of shots will usually be enough to dispatch them. You will be rewarded with a used ammo clip if you eliminate them.

2 - TRIUMVIRATE GUARD: Formerly members of the Nazi SS, these soldiers have taken their training to the next level, and learned the art of jungle warefare. They wear body armor and carry machine guns, so be careful how you deal with them. It would be wise to think twice about dealing with more than one of them if you only have a pistol. The good news is that you will get their machine gun if you take one of them out.

3 - OFFICER: These are the officers who escaped Germany with Eisenkreiger on board the U-boats. They are well trained with the pistols they carry, and wear light body armor. To make matters worse, they are very fast, and can dodge your bullets if you don't aim carefully. Automatic weapons are the best way to deal with them, even in small numbers. They will leave behind a partial ammo clip if you destroy them.

4 - GUERRILLA SOLDIER: Possibly one of the most deadly enemies you'll encounter, these guys are highly skilled in the art of jungle warfare. They can remain concealed until just the right moment when they ambush you with their twin pistols. The sound of their guns firing will be the only indication that they are attacking you. They prefer to fight in their element outdoors, and only rarely will they be encountered inside. If you survive long enough to dispatch them, they will leave ammunition behind.

5 - INCENDIARY SOLDIER: A fancy name for a soldier with a flame thrower and a flame retardant suit. When one of these guys spots you, all hell breaks loose as they start spewing balls of burning napalm your way. Because of the protective gear they wear, they can run right through it, but it will burn the meat right off your bones in a hurry if you're not careful. The good news is that the fire travels pretty slowly, but don't get careless. The bad news is that you don't get anything for killing these guys, so use your ammo wisely.

6 - JEEP SOLDIER: These guys are bad news. You will encounter them in jungle areas, and they attempt to kill you by gunning you down with machine guns. The only thing to do is run and hope that you lose them, unless you're feeling brave enough to stand and fight them. They've been known to drive indoors if it means cornering you, so be careful where you take refuge from them.

* - PHANTOM MENACE: (photo not available) These ghost-like enemies hold a nasty surprise, as they belch balls of fire at unsuspecting intruders. Are they real, or simply an elaborate device to scare off intruders? An encounter with one will convince you that their threat is real enough. They leave no ammo, so use it sparingly when attacking them.

* - ENFORCER DROID: (photo not available) The Gyropanzer isn't the only piece of deadly machinery Von Braun has designed during his time in South America. These large, heavily armed, ill-tempered robots guard the key areas of the Triumvirate occupation. They are programmed with one simple directive: eliminate intruders without mercy. Hopefully you'll be well armed before you run into them.

Boss Enemies
Every episode has a leader of some sort you will have to deal with before you can complete your mission. They use a variety of attacks, but they all share one thing in common - they can take a lot of abuse before they go down! To make matters worse, most of them are smart enough to keep body guards of some sort around, so you might not be facing them alone. You can do it, right? After all, you're BJ, and BJ never loses!

1 - LA CUCARACHA: El Presidente's chief thug, La Cucaracha isn't actually of South American descent. Originally from Texas, he escaped across the border to Mexico, and made his way to South America to escape being executed for violent crimes he'd committed. He's worked for El Presidente ever since then, doing every kind of dirty work imaginable. Currently, he's been placed in charge of security on board the submarine "Wolfram", and has gotten pretty bored from the long journey. Nothing would make him happier than to have BJ to use for target practice to break up the monotony.

2- HON FU: Trained as a master assassain, nobody knows the true identity or origins of Hon Fu. Many suspect he is a refugee from the war in Japan, but there is no evidence to support or deny this. He doesn't believe in using guns, and he doesn't need them. He prefers instead to attack with his sword at close range and deadly throwing knives from a distance. When last seen, he was hiding out in the jungles of Colombia, directing the guerrilla forces there for El Presidente. His mission is simple - kill any intruders on the spot - and that goes double for BJ Blazkowicz.

3 - EL PRESIDENTE: A corrupt self-appointed dictator, he's actually just the chief of an illegitimate "police" force gone totally bad. His men actually do more harm than good, living only to pad El Presidente's pockets. El Presidente is concerned only with padding his own pockets, and his position as a member of the Triumvirate leadership exists only to help him satisfy his outrageous desire for money and power. He dwells in a well fortified villa in the Colombian jungle, protected by a veritable army of guards. Should someone (namely BJ) penetrate all of his defenses, he's more than ready to protect his own hide with his chaingun and rocket launcher. Destroying him will be a great victory for the oppressed people of the region he controls, but only a third of the battle as far as BJ is concerned.

4 - SCHWARZRITTER: Big, bad, and butt ugly. This angry giant lives to serve as an enforcer for the Triumvirate. He will battle to the death anyone who threatens its members, especially Wolfgang Eisenkreiger. He lacks the intelligence to plan or lead jobs himself, but his current position requires him to do neither. He is serving as the guardian of the jungle camp where most of the South American and German troops are hiding out, and is ready to lay down the law should anyone be foolish enough to cause a ruckus. He carries two chainguns, which is more than enough to put the hurt on any man. Luckily for you, BJ isn't just any man.

5 - EMMET VON BRAUN: The second member of the Triumvirate. A scientific genius, Emmet was working on an atomic bomb for Germany when he suddenly fled the country with Wolfgang Eisenkreiger to help launch "Operation: Letzterschutz". Now, he's working on a weapon called the "gyropanzer", which Eisenkreiger hopes will usher in a new era of military might for the former Nazis. Emmet has little love for war, believing it to be barbaric and foolish, but the death of several of his loved ones during the first World War has fueled his hatred and desire for destruction. Though he's not a fighter himself, he carries a rocket launcher to deal with anyone who threatens him. He resides in a heavily guarded laboratory, where he toils endlessly on his various experiments.

6 - WOLFGANG EISENKREIGER: A highly decorated field officer of the Third Reich, Eisenkreiger was the mastermind behind "Operation: Letzterschutz". Though he regretted leaving the Fatherland in the final hours of the war, he believes that his current endeavors will ultimately justify his defection, and possibly provide an opportunity for revenge against the Americans for their destruction of the Third Reich. He is currently awaiting completion of an army of gyropanzers, which he plans to use to wage a war against the Americans from his position in South America. He is unafraid of death, and will battle to the very end any opponent who dares to face him. So far, he's the only one who's ever walked away from a fight with himself. Maybe BJ will have better luck. Defeat Eisenkreiger, and put an end to the Triumvirate and "Operation: Letzterschutz"!

There are four different difficulty settings in "Operation: Letzterschutz", ranging from very easy to obnoxiously difficult. The strength and number of enemies you will face is determined by which difficulty setting you choose. Here are the four different difficulty settings.

CHICKEN - This setting is strictly for newbies and people who are afraid of the toilet. Challenge is minimal, as there are very few enemies, and the ones that you will face have very low hit points. Not a suitable challenge for serious gamers.

AVERAGE JOE - A little bit tougher than "chicken" mode, but not by much. The enemies can take more damage, but their location and number is the same. This difficulty still won't present much of a challenge for people who are experienced first person shooter fans.

ONE MAN ARMY - This setting most accurately reflects the level of challenge "Operation: Letzterschutz" is meant to have. The enemy count is much higher than in the first two settings, and bosses and standard enemies can take more hits before going down. This is the preferred setting for folks who have had some experience in the world of Wolfenstein.

TOTAL MANIAC! - If you like abuse (and who doesn't?), then this is the setting for you. There are lots of enemies in this setting (the same as in "One Man Army"), but they take the most damage of any difficulty level. You'll need to look for health and ammo more than ever to stay alive on this setting. A suitable challenge for seasoned Wolfers who find the other settings to be too easy.

Episodes
There are six episodes total in "Operation: Letzterschutz". They are meant to be played in order to preserve the continuity of the storyline. It also helps to give you a chance to warm up as the enemies and levels get progressively harder in the later episodes. The number of levels per episode varies, but each of them will end with a boss trying to prevent BJ from accomplishing his mission. The game ends when you complete Episode 6 and destroy the final member of the Triumvirate, Wolfgang Eisenkreiger. Here is a description of each episode.

EPISODE 1: "DEEP TROUBLE" - BJ begins his mission on board the "Wolfram", a massive German U-boat (submarine) transporting treasure from Germany to South America. Since BJ's plan to use stealth falls through before it even begins, he must run and gun his way through the sub, and find a map to the Triumvirate hideout in South America, then hide out for the rest of the voyage. The good news is that such a map does exist. The bad news is it's guarded by La Cucaracha!

EPISODE 2: "JUNGLE FEVER" - Hiding in a cargo container, BJ makes his way to the jungles of South America. He must locate and infiltrate the Triumvirate's camp, but it won't be easy! Along the way, he will face a treacherous jungle maze crawling with deadly guerrilla soldiers, and as if that weren't bad enough, the assassain, Hon Fu!

EPISODE 3: "CAMP DEADLY" - BJ destroys Hon Fu and his guerrilla forces, only to be captured and imprisoned! It's time to bust free and make a mess of the enemy camp! It won't be easy, though...it's crawling with both German and South American soldiers, and if they don't kill him, there's always the Schwarzritter to deal with!

EPISODE 4: "HONCHO'S VILLA" - BJ destroys the enemy camp, and learns the location of the despicable El Presidente's heavily guarded hideout. BJ must penetrate the vile dictator's defenses, and finally, face the Presidente himself! It won't be easy, though...the place is crawling with the Presidente's loyal gun toting thugs!

EPISODE 5: "NO PAIN, NO GAIN" - BJ embarks on what could very well be the most important part of his mission, as he attempts to locate the Triumvirate genius, Emmet Von Braun! Von Braun is holed up in a once abandoned monastery, which is now crawling with Triumvirate troops. Beware, BJ...there are worse things in the monastery than hordes of armed guards!

EPISODE 6: "SHOWDOWN!" - The Triumvirate forces are nearly defeated, but it's not over yet! BJ learns that the gyropanzer has been completed, and is about to be launched from a deserted airfield unless he can stop it in time! It will take some heavy firepower, as BJ must defeat an army of the Triumvirate's toughest, and finally, Wolfgang Eisenkreiger himself! Good luck, BJ...you'll need it!
