Geonosian Technology
The Geonosians have highly developed sonic weaponry, utilizing it in sonic mines, sonic blasters, and sonic cannon artillery. A minor inconvenience with sonic weaponry is the fact that it is ineffective in space and void, and are rendered very weak in low density atmospheres. On the other hand, they have improved power in heavy atmosphere, and operate very effectively under water. Plus, they do not create heat and can therefore be fired near combustible materials without fear of explosions. The Geonosians preferred sonic weapons because they can crush flesh and bone while leaving rock walls and tunnels undamaged. Geonosian sonic blasters and cannons differ from the common galactic sonic weapons in that they encapsulate the sonic energy in a shimmering plasmatic sphere. Upon hitting its target, the plasma bubble "pops" and releases a concussive omnidirectional sonic blast that cannot be deflected by lightsabers.
Energy Sails
Early Geonosian starships used immense sails that harnessed solar energy or more intense planet-based lasers as a form of propulsion. The use of sail ships declined as the Geonosians discovered modern fusion technologies.
Narrow Beam Tractor/Repulsors
Used on many Geonosian starships, narrow beam tractor repulsors utilize technology similar to modern repulsor coils to grapple or push against objects, giving Geonosian starships increased maneuverability in atmosphere or asteroid belts, and allowing them to latch onto an enemy and lower its maneuverability. Narrow beam tractor/repulsors differ from true tractor beams in that they do not project a type of shielding around the target, and therefore do not require nearly as much power, though this also means that they can never truly lock onto a target, merely tug on it.
Laminasteel Weave
Laminasteel, developed on the planet Geonosis, was formed into long strings and used in certain Geonosian products, such as the Nantex starfighters. Strings of laminasteel can be woven and wrapped at high temperatures, binding together the ship's components. The frame cools to metallic hardness, yet the bonds can momentarily yield and rebound enough to survive impacts that would fracture a more rigidly constituted vessel
Frictionless Rotating Mount
The Geonosians have developed orbs that are magnetically suspended and inductively powered without direct contact, allowing frictionless engine and weapon mounts. These are used in certain Geonosian fighter designs, including the Nantex starfighter.
Magnetic Bottle
A strange, repulsorlift-like technology created by the Geonosians, a magnetic bottle involves concentrating magnetic fields in a small area - the "bottle" - and using them in opposition to each other to keep items away from each other. This technology is used in holding particularly dangerous prisoners in a type of stasis field, and in frictionless rotating mounts.
Visgura
Visgura is an expensive, chain-like thread produced by the Geonosians from the egg cases of extinct spiders. Visgura is extremely durable, yet lightweight and aesthetically pleasing. The Geonosian aristocracy uses visgura to make expensive clothing. There is also a small market in devoted collectors of rare substances, but because of Geonosis's relative isolation visgura has never become a profitable export.
Products of Geonosian Design
Nantex Territorial Defense Starfighter: A lean, needle-nosed fighter-craft with a distinct alien heritage, the starfighters of the Geonosians are small, compact vessels that combine high linear acceleration with phenomenal maneuverability as a result of the frictionless rotating mount of their thrusters. A single Geonosian pilot sits within the cramped cockpit, his head poking up to peer out of a bubble canopy allowing a 360-degree field of vision. Cradled within the forward needles of the ship is a turret-mounted laser cannon. The twin-pronged needle-nosed fighter is an effective deterrent to intruders of Geonosian airspace, and unlike their battle droid designs, the Geonosians have not marketed the craft to outside consumers, despite their superior speed and agility. This is mostly due to the ship's control systems being specificially tailored for a Geonosian pilot. The complex multi-axis control yokes require a Geonosian's dexterity, and vital performance feedback is provided to the pilot via a scent-stimulator mask that exploits the accute Geonosian olfactory senses; the mask also sprays subverbal pheremone signals so that air marshals and flight controllers can remotely modify the pilot's mood and impart collective priorities. The fighter's primary weapon is a turret-orb mounted laser cannon, with a long barrel that imparts greater spin to the emergent beam, reducing collateral bolt glow relative to destructive power (in other words, the laser cannon is more powerful than a standard laser cannon). The weapon orb and engine cluster are modular, and can be swapped out for mission specific requirements. In addition to its primary weapon orb, the starfighter is lined with one hundred independently-aiming narrow-beam tractor/repulsor projectors. These devices provide the ship with increased agility in an atmosphere, but can be used offensively to reduce the maneuverability of target craft. Integrated into the tractor beam projectors of the bow prong are shield projectors which, besides providing shielding for the craft, can selectively project ray-shield energies around the prongs to give the ship extra maneuverabiliy.
The outer hull of the starfighter is constructed of woven, reinforced laminasteel.
SRT Droid: Developed by the Geonosians, this short-rande transport droid was a repulsor-equipped automaton that had a main body that was fitted with a wide transport deck. The body was little more than a thick torso, with manipulator arms to move cargo onto and off of the deck. The SRT droid moved about the Geonosian droid factories, shuttling parts and raw materials to their destinations.
Geonosian Corvette: This ship was designed and built by the Geonosians, for the use of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, during the early stages of the Clone Wars. Like most other Geonosian designs, the corvette had a bronze-colored hull and a pointed nose that split into a pair of mandibles.
Ginivex-class Starfighter "Fanblade": Count Dooku commissioned the Huppla Pasa Tisc Shipwrights Collective on Geonosis to craft a sextet of starfighters for his exclusive use. Based loosely on aggressive Geonosian air patrol skimmers, the resulting Ginivex-class starfighters were informally dubbed "fanblades" for their most distinctive feature. The slim, elegant vessel had an iridescent fan-like wing extending from its dorsal and ventral surface. The wing can accordion inward to hide flush with the ship's body. The fan deploys for combat mode, stretched to its half-circle extent along a pair of articulated boom arms. Atop each arm is a double laser cannon that swings and locks into forward-firing position. In combat mode, these laser cannons have an enlarged firing arc. When the boom arms are shut, these cannons still point forward due to a limited hinge joint that locks them into place. Though the combat mode greatly increases the fighter's target silhouette, the exotic material of the fan serves as a transmission plane for deflector shield energy. With shields fully energized, the fanblade is a tough target to damage. However, the energy output makes the fighter stand out like a beacon on sensors. In a manner similar to the sail found on Dooku's solar sailer, the fan also serves as an alternate form of propulsion, though the ship is fitted with standard sublight and hyperspace drives. When not in combat mode, the starfighter loses the benefit of enhanced shields, but is difficult to target due to its tiny silhouette. Also, ion bafflers incorporated into its sublight engines make it very stealthy.
Punworcca 116-class Sloop: The Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop was manufactured originally for Geonosian aristocrats and inspectors who were obligated to leave Geonosis to examine or oversee the production of a Baktoid factory installation. Like most Geonosian starships, it features two multi-functional bow prongs that sport 84 narrow tractor/repulsor beams, and can selectively adjust the spread of ray shielding around the ship for extra maneuverability. Unlike most Geonosian starships, the surface of its hull is made of heavy metals that are preciously rare on Geonosis, making it a sign of extreme wealth for an aristocrat to own one, but its underlying structure is of a tough component similar in some regards to laminasteel called laminar. The design includes a forward mount that can be fitted with either a weapons or sensor orb or a cockpit module (when the cockpit module is not installed, controls are routed to the main hold). The passenger orb (which contains a personal locker, a passenger bunk, and a small circular table, and has standing room for ten passengers) in the rear of the ship does not rotate, but can be swapped for a more powerful engine system with some effort. The main hold, between the forward module and the passenger orb, contains computer consoles and starchart displays, and can be modified to include any number of refinements, such as a databook library. A small maintenance station above the passenger orb, accessible by ladder, gives a passenger access to a scent-stimulator vent which reveals the ships status, an engineering console for adjusting the power supply and engine status, the class 1.5 hyperdrive and the fuel reactant tanklets. Entrance is generally through the rear passenger orb. Count Dooku's modified Punworcca 116-class sloop had its primary engines systems replaced with a mysterious energy sail purchased near the Gree Enclave.
