Domain Speculation
For Domain Speculators

How to use the Overture suggestion tool to greatly improve your odds of registering a DN that can be resold at a PROFIT.

Use the link below to check your DN for popularity.

Example: FreeDsl.com

Check it in its full form.

1 Example: FreeDsl.com = 265

This shows that people are using the entire URL.

And it will receive Type-In traffic.

Next check the words joined together.

2 Example:FreeDsl = 10560

Above 5000+ is a great number.

Next check the words separated.

3 Example:Free Dsl = 10560

Above 5000+ is a great number.

This DN not only has very popular keywords, but, it also receives type-in traffic.

It would sell easily.

Another example: MagazineSubscriptions.com

1 Example: MagazineSubscriptions.com = 0

This DN will not receive allot of type-in traffic.

2 Example: MagazineSubscriptions = 42

This isn't a very high number, but it will receive some type-in traffic.

3 Example: Magazine Subscriptions = 15340

This is a very good number and this DN should sell rather easily.

No.1 Indicates type-in traffic.

No.2 Indicates potential type-in traffic.

No.3 Indicates popularity. This is the important one.

If this number is 1000+ its almost certain that you have a winner.

If you have a DN that scores this high we will try and sell it for you, or maybe buy it ourselves.

Note: MagazineSubscriptions.com was sold recently. And the buyer is very happy with the purchase of this DN.

We hope this bare bones explanation explains how to use this tool quickly and easily.

And that its saves you from registering lesser DN's.

Overture suggestion tool

For a list of thousands of popular Keywords

HitBrain

Register any listed keywords as DN's at your own risk.

Examples: These are long and would probably NOT sell:

child health insurance program = 1373

Estimated annual searches: 18,900+

stainless steel gas grill = 1201

Estimated annual searches: 16,500+

To have the best odds of reselling a DN it should:

1 Have a score at No.1

2 Have a score at No.2

3 Score 1000+ at No.3

4 Be a .com

5 Contain 2 or less words

6 Not have a Federal Trademark

7 Pertain to an industry, such as:

Health - Phone - Auto - Shopping - Gaming -Travel - Business - Finance - Geography - Pet - Home - Education - Career - Diet - Furniture - Electronics - Apparel - Email - Science/Technology - Web/Online - Bar/Wine - Music - Nature/Environ - Search engine - Magazines , etc.

*Try to avoid having numbers or dashes in your domain names, as these DN's are more difficult to sell.

Look at the DN's listed here:

DN's for sale

You may find one that you wish to purchase.

REMEMBER to check ALL DN scores both with and without the 'S' at the end.

You may find a good one thats unregistered.

Once you have a good domain for sale you can try sending out sales letters by email.

*Some sellers say that you have to send out 100 emails on each domain to get a good idea of its value.

Heres an example of a successful sales letter:

We want to thank ProDominios.com for letting us use it.

This is the original message:

-------------------------------------------
I am selling the top hosting domain name "HostingService.com",

I think that this name could be interesting for your target, because this domain has:

*Excellent keywords for hosting services.

*Is PERFECT for Hosting Service Companies.

*More than 8000 results on Overture.com term suggestion (most typed keywords).

*Over 2,9 million results on Google.com (keywords: Hosting Service).

The name itself is very catchy. You can attract more customers, getting and developing this descriptive and magnetic name for your hosting company.

If you´re interested in purchasing this domain name, please reply with your offer in US dollars.

I am looking for a 4 to 5 figure amount.

All offers will be considered.

Thank you for your time,

Chris

Below are the sellers comments about the sale:

I contacted a Hosting company last day (an adult hosting company), and today I got on e-mail a very good offer from them (thousands of $ + a 3 letter dot com).

I´ve accepted that offer.

Money is on the way....

PS: Yup, domain offers via e-mail works

Another way to sell a Domain Name is by putting it up for auction on eBay.

Most domains that are put up on eBay do NOT sell. And allot of lesser domains are being listed which makes it harder for a buyer to find the good ones. Also, if a domain is sold on eBay, it will probably sell for LESS than the buyer could have gotten for it, had he offered it to related companies through sales letters like the one shown above.

Featured auctions on eBay offer a better chance at a sale of your domain name more people will see it.

But, again, most domain on eBay do NOT sell.

What makes a domain valuable, besides just the name itself?

It is easier to sell a domain name that has had some development, even if its just a single page with affiliate links (from: CJ.com ,etc.) and has been submitted to search engines (see our: FREE page for free search engine submissions).

Make sure the affiliate links match the domain name.

If your domain name is about 'BOOKS' ,your visitors will not be too happy to find out that you are selling TICKETS to sporting events.

The more your domain name matches what your visitors are looking for the greater chance you have for a sale.

And thats what its ALL about: SALES.

So, submit your domain to the search engines and gather stats for your domain (number of visitors), by having an active site with a free visitor counter .

Everyone loves traffic (visitors), especially those that are from type-ins, because you get these automatically, without having to advertise.

There are some generic keyword domains that receive 100,000 type-ins a day, without spending a single penny on advertising.

Domains you probably SHOULDN'T register:

Many times you will see posts in Domain forums asking for a specific type of domain, such as 'auto parts'.

What happens next is that a 'dozen' people run off and register 'auto parts' domains and offer it to that buyer.

None of these domains may even be chosen.

And this buyer gets to look at allot of 'auto parts' domains without spending a single penny.

While those who registered them are often left with domains that they will NEVER sell. Beware.

Another thing to watch out for is the buyer who says that he WANTS to buy your domain at your asking price.

BUT, he wants to be sure that it is worth the money.

He assures you that he will buy it, IF you have it appraised at one of several domain appraisal companies that HE chooses.

Beware of this.

He may be connected to these companies and just looking to drum up business for them, without any intention of ever buying your domain.

Theres no MAGIC formula that can produce a winning domain name, and some domains that fit the 7 criteria above do not sell, while other domains which contain 5 words do end up being sold.

Heres a short list of domains that have reportedly sold and their selling price to give you a better idea:

engineering.org $198,895 - back.com $85,000 - icon.com $78,750 - ibc.com $57,880 - getaloan.com $48,000 - foto.com $43,000 - later.com $40,790 - clarion.com $30,000 - fan.tv $30,000 - nudists.com $27,500 - sp.com $26,250 - i8.com $15,500 - 6d.com $14,550 - js.com $13,740 - foodstore.com $10,500 - ijetset.com $10,500 - hawaii.ca $10,500 - 28.com $10,000 - booster.com $10,000 - formalwear.com $10,000 - cryogenics.com $10,000 - knobs.com $10,000 - fda.com $9,000 - gk.com $8,505 - alicia.com $7,500 - logicworks.com $7,488 - popbands.com $6,340 - iregister.com $6,315 - shp.com $6,060 - xpcomputers.com $6,000 - xpcomputer.com $6,000 - xpphone.com $6,000 - destroy.com $5,500 - ekn.com $5,000 - dvm.com $5,000 - pointclick.com $5,000 - industrialsupply.net $5,000 - valerie.com $4,715 - kool.tv $4,700 - picasso.com $4,410 - 090.com $3,955 - ecertifiedemail.com $3,200 - ibb.com $3,180 - universalgames.com $3,000 - cruisediscounts.com $3,000 - 177.com $2,850 - hotmixture.com $2,750 - 7h.com $2,700 - 6d.net $2,700 - 6d.org $2,100 - swv.com $2,050 - wifi.net $2,000 - 247.org $1,500 - 258.com $1,425 - shrewd.com $1,310 - BeInMotion.com $1,250 - crossblood.com $1,200 - emarketingsolutions.com $1,200 - 6z.com $1,140 - bulkdownloads.com $1,100 - stopbackpain.com $1,088 - bn.org $1,085 - directprovider.com $1,000 - customhost.com $1,000

Domain 'DROP' info.

When a domain 'drops', anyone can register it.

Goto Whois-Search and enter the name of the domain that you are interested in. It will tell you when it was regged and when it runs out. If it says:

Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB.

The local WHOIS must be out of date. This usually means that this domain has been taken out of the Root Server,is about to drop.

Most, but not all, drops occur at 2pm EST.

If you want the domain you should try to register it, over and over again, from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm EST.

If it is a wanted domain its probable that a service like snapnames will acquire it with their automated service. If you want to snap a domain you could join the SnapNames affiliate program and use your affiliate account to order the SnapBack credit. Thus you will earn a commission, and save some money.

When a domain appears about to drop, you can send an email to the listed contact. If it is sent back to you as undeliverable, there is a chance that the owners will forget to renew that domain.

Which service is the best?

If you want to use a service and not try and grab the name manually:

The top two seem to be:

SnapNames and NameWinner.

Sometimes, ppl. beat these two by registering a DN manually, but, MOST times the automated system wins.

Right now it is a BUYERS market.

Some of the easier sellers are peoples names, either first or last.

Lets say you acquire jennifer.com

You could do a search through lycos, and all the engines listed on the bottom of the result page.

Next, email all of the Jennifers that you find, saying:

"Do you want to buy Jennifer.com for $300 ?"

*Actually, you could get more than $300 for 'Jennifer' .com.

Other good prospects are two letter domains.

Even two character domains with a number will sell.

7h.com sold for $2,700.

And three letter dot-coms. Excluding the uncommon letters q,z,v,x, should sell quickly.

These two and three letter DN's are rare and hard to find.

And usually do sell.

There is a good free list to be found at: Deleting.net

Keep checking this list for good domains.

If you catch a good one, you'll be all smiles.

You could then use the lycos ideas above and find companies with those initials, and write a letter like the one shown above for the hosting domain to seek a buyer.

Heres something that domain speculators should know:

The life cycle of a domain

A very good search tool can be found at: LocalWhois

Practice using it. You can search for domains without dashes and numbers, and for less than 3 characters.

All 1 or 2 character domains will sell, and most 3 character domains will sell rather easily.

You can also search for dictionary words.

A few interseting ones to go for just came up , (Labor Day):

Payrolls.com

Perfumes.net

AC.com

Kq.net

*It may take 30 - 45 days before they are available. Grab a good one and it will be worth the effort.

Remember, tens of thousands of domains expire every day, because most of them are worthless.

Don't register junk!

3 Word domains generally do not sell.

Mine for gold, and you may find it.

And, this cannot be said often enough, if you get an offer for a domain, it may be your last.

Luckily for you, we turned down 3k for a domain, that now sits collecting dust.

Thats an expensive lesson.

Appraisals:

Allot of domain newbies find groups that appraise DN's for outrageously high prices. And its only after they spend '$500' that they realise that its 2002, and not 1998.

Beauty.cc sold years ago for $700,000.

I don't think you could get $7,000 for it today.

But, a few days ago (Aug. 20th) someone had a two letter domain appraised by real experts, and it was appraised at 5 figures.

These are the domains speculators should go after.

Generic domains:

Lets say that you want to reg a DN with the word 'domain' in it. And you are thinking of something like 'SuperDomains'. You can put any word you like in front of the word 'domains', but, the odds are that you would not be able to find a buyer for this domain.

Of course, domains.com is long gone. But, you would be able to sell: domains.net, domains.org, domains.us, domains.biz, if you can get it.

So, think GENERIC, and even though 'Dot-Com' is King, you can sell a generic DN in another TLD (.net, .org, etc.) more easily than a non-generic dot-com.

Why would anyone pay for 'Super' ,when they can use:

Amazing , Dynamite , Great , etc., and only pay a registration fee?

The odds are, they wouldn't.

Generics sell.

No rule is unbreakable, but these are good guidelines.

There are allot of secrets that we are researching right now, as we prove them useful they will be listed here.

Hope this info. helps!

Good luck with your DN Mining, and may all your Domains turn to Gold!

*Remember mining is hard work , and many ppl. spend 16 hours straight working and come up with nothing.

The next time you hear of someone selling a domain for 5+ figures, you can bet the odds are that he WORKED for it.
