after the death of manji's sister, machi, our young protagonist struck a bargain with yaobikuni.
the woman assured him that if he killed one thousand evil men to atone for his previous sins, the kessen-chu would let him finally die.
yaobikuni was also the one to direct rin toward manji, urging her to hire a yojimbo, a bodyguard.
