Religion Rant
So about religion. I’m not too picky when it comes to people and different religions. I mean I don’t go bashing mine over their head, or telling them theirs is wrong. I am a Lutheran (Missouri Synod) and I don’t expect everyone to go accepting what I believe in. My rants about religion though have irked me for a long long time.
People are so touchy about religion. I don’t really understand it, because, I think as long as I know I believe in God, I’m okay. Well, some people forget the fact that all you need to do is repent and believe and be truly sorry for your sins, so they go around telling people they’re wrong because they are not of the same religion. Honestly if you ask me, there is no ‘right’ religion. People mess things up and translate things differently. It’s like that telephone game where you whisper something to one person, and they pass it around the circle, and by the time it gets back around to you, it’s TOTALLY messed up. Unfortunately this is what happened to the Bible. Notice there are a lot of versions that are alike, but there are a few that are completely different, or have HUGE differences in the way the story goes. So as I see it, all you need to do is as I stated above: be truly sorry for your sins, repent, and believe God will pull you through anything you get yourself into.
About other religions, like Islam. People are so ignorant of this religion, I think. I was in church just last night with my boyfriend and they had a sermon about missionaries who were over seas in Pakistan and all these other places that practice Islam, and the pastor said that people who worshipped Islam were going to hell! That’s not true people, it’s really not. I’ve heard this from a million people I’ve discussed religion with, they say Islam followers are going to hell because they worship Allah. Well, if you studied or knew REMOTELY anything about the religion, you would know Allah means God in their language. So they believe in God, they just do not practice in the same way we do. They still believe in the old ways, which is also pleasing to God. As long as you worship him, he is glad.
I also don’t like it when people try to force their religion on me. If they would tell me about it first, explain to me what they believe, then I might be a little nicer about it when I tell them I believe in a different religion. I think a lot of people are this way. If someone tries to force their religion on you, by telling you you’re wrong or by shoving their beliefs down your throat, you’ll feel threatened. When you feel threatened what do you do? You get angry, scared, and you threaten back. If people would just be a little more subtle in their ways of spreading their religion (by explaining, not TELLING people that they’re wrong) more people might be willing to go along and try out this new religion they’ve been introduced to.
It irks me when people tell me my religion is wrong about certain things. Well I’m here to tell you, so is yours. Don’t make your religion out to be perfect. Your religion is not there for you to brag and flaunt about, it’s there so you can praise God and help others turn to him also. One time I got to tell a person off because she knew nothing about my religion and began to bash it, and I turned around, whipped out my Catechism, and showed her EXACTLY what we believe. I have to say she did not bash my religion again, she also respected my religion after that, and my personal favorite, she looked like a big idiot afterward, though I must say she was very graceful about it and apologized.
So my points about this rant: 1. Don’t force your religion on someone, tell them about it. 2. There is no right and wrong religion, because if there was, we’d all believe in the same thing. 3. All you have to do is be truly sorry for your sins, repent, and believe in God. 4. Before you go bashing someone else’s religion, maybe you should do a bit of research before you condemn them and tell them they’re wrong.
