Anime and Manga Rave
Well here’s something I like to rant about to people, anime and manga!
Technically, I guess this isn’t a rant, though in real life if you mix these up or just don’t know what you’re talking about, it irks the ever living crap out of me. So let’s get started:
ANIME AND MANGA ARE DIFFERENT!
Let’s put this another way: THERE ARE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ANIME AND MANGA!
And again: ANIME AND MANGA ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!
I know you’re not stupid, but there is someone who will wander across this page and will need all three of those sentences to understand what I’m saying. Trust me, I know. So let’s get on to the differences of these two.
Anime is a Japanese animation. Anime is not a cartoon. Cartoons are cool, but will never reach the level of awesomeness anime has. Anime and cartoons are different anyway. Anime has more plot, it’s an on-going story, the characters develop and grow, and the series ACTUALLY ENDS!
Manga is a Japanese graphic novel (aka: comic). Manga and American comics are not the same either. American comics are pretty much all alike, the hero always wins, gets the girl, ect. Manga is a totally different style of drawing, and storytelling all together. Manga is like anime, it has a larger plot, is an on-going story, the characters also develop and grow, they change clothes instead of wearing the same thing every time, the hero (or heroin) doesn’t always win, they DO lose, and sometimes even die. They use this as a lesson and to add more elements to the story. They don’t always get the girl or guy either. Sad but true. Also the series actually ends! Manga is better than American graphic novels because, our graphic novels are really aimed only at teens and kids. Manga and anime are aimed at ALL age groups. They have manga for adults, if you know what I mean. *cough cough* They also have manga for adults that’s not naughty, it’s just the kind of thing adults like. They have manga for all different genres, ages, types, and even occupations! They have mangas about office workers, believe it or not! If you go to Japan, you can not only find kids and teens reading it, but adults, and even the most well known business man reading them!
So I don’t think that was really a rant or rave, but still! I hope I helped clear up a bit, and if you’re a newcomer into the anime and manga world, then go check out some stuff on the web (I suggest Yahoo websearch if you’re looking for anything.) If you already know a little bit about anime or manga and have a favorite series you’d like to learn more about, then go here: www.animespy.com Like I said, if you’re a newcomer to anime or manga, and you need or would like some good animes to watch or mangas to read, e-mail me and I’d be glad to suggest a few!
