Pyramids

Egypt has many pyramids - amazing stone structures with a flat base and four triangular sides meeting at an apex. Pyramids were constructed to house the mortal remains of deceased pharaohs and nobles; those built for the pharaohs are the largest.
Although the majority of pyramids have smooth sides, the earliest known structure at Saqqara is called the Step Pyramid, because of its shape. The Step Pyramid was built for the pharaoh Djoser (Zoser). It is believed to have been created by one man, Imhotep, who is thought to have been a doctor, sage, architect, astronomer and high priest. The largest and most famous of Egypt’s many pyramids, The Great Pyramid of Cheops, is one of the seven Wonders of the Ancient World and can be found at Giza near Cairo.
