Pilot Certification Requirements June 11, 2005 Review:
Your checklist to ensure you meet all the requirements for your upcoming checkride.
If you honestly think your instructor is going to manage to get this 100%
right, stop smoking that stuff.
Aeromedical
Factors 1 June 6, 2005 Review: This is actually
a lesson plan, with more questions than answers, but if you've studied the
notes, you should be able to answer most of them. Good thought provoking issues,
related to everyday incidents.
Complex
Guide 1 (Editor: John Tinsley) June 6, 2005. Review:
A good little warm up possibly for the Corcorane ride.
Multi-Engine
Training Questions (Author: Chris D. Chadd) June 6, 2005. Review:
350 questions about Duchess systems and performance, some simple facts and
others scenario based. Not entirely complete, but plenty to go on. Helped
two guys get past a Cyndie Bourne grilling recently.
Prop
Control & Operation "2nd Edition" (Editor: John Tinsley)
June 11, 2005. Review: Interesting expansion on how
the prop governor works, plenty of pretty pictures and a reminder that infact
the 0-360-A1G6D prop governor is at the BACK of the engine!
Commercial
(AMEL) Oral Guide
June 6, 2005. Review:
Alright, but like the Complex Guide 1, should be used
as part of all the other question banks.
The
Ever Reliable Bill Ball Multi Oral Gauge June 6, 2005 (Source, Anon).
Review:
A great selection of multi questions, including some
of the infamous classics. Heavily systems orientated. "Are you sure..Captain?"

Hour
Building Phase
A few tips for
your first couple of flights (coming shortly) Preview:
This will be a collection of incidents that happened to us during the hour
building phase.. inc. outsiders not knowing what the f* was going on, sudden
rpm drops, partners trying to take off (at 3am) with flaps down, abandoned
GUMP(PLF)S checks, identifying wrong nav aids, wrong clearances read back,
partners going off to test-fly the rough running engined plane solo, trying
to land on the wrong runway/airport, runway lights going off just as you flare,
angry ATC controllers, taxiing and taking-off sans fuel caps, prop strikes
on rogue/lone runway lights, nit-picking co-pilots, f*ng up a SID, trying
to fly 25 25 somewhere in IMC with the door popped and rain pouring in, hypoxic
chainsmoking co-pilots, misbehaving radios, partners who try to fly everything
by themselves (at 4am, there isn't much keeping you awake)... etc.
Send
them in, all anonymous but meant to help the guys and girls just starting
off..

Flap_Malfunction
June 6, 2005 Review: A short thought provoking briefing
into what's going on when your flaps start playing-up, plus a few options
for you to build into your ever-strengthening 'errr, what would I do?' armoury.
Review:
These are all lesson plans, so they'll get moved to the CFI section shortly
(but we'll hang on until I have something better to put in their place).. the
last part has some good points to check you are 'ticking all the boxes' as you
fly these manoeuvres. Of course it's a million times easier once you are shown
them. The Com ASEL rating has to be the most fun flying on the whole Pro-course.
Fundamentals
of Instructing 1 June 6, 2005 Review: For those
of you starting the long (or 1 month) slog towards the Initial Instructor
rating, this is a collection of the abbreviations for the FOIs for you to
check you know. Of course, it's no good just knowing the acronyms, you have
to be able to apply them to everyday, realworld scenarios... so make some
up to go with the basics. Then send them here for us all to share.
Regulations
- "Aeronautical Experience Checklist" June
11, 2005. (courtesy of John Tinsley)
Review: I read this and felt like a dum-ass.. all the hours I spent in MEI
training sweating over the FARs, learning what regulations pointed to this
or that experience required, additional ratings, short-cuts, double dipping
etc.. learning it inside out.. and then this document shows up. doh!! Cut
your MEI training period down by two weeks by reading this instead. (okay,
you still need to point out where these legal requirements are to the examiner..
but you're half way there).
Fuel
System June 6, 2005 Review: Okay so it looks like
a boring lesson plan for Instructors, but's it's actually got some interesting
facts about the BE76 Duchess fuel system that make salient reading for all
grades of pilot, interested in 'knowing all'.
