Sending In The Goons

So we all know about the Temple-St. Joes incident with John Chaney. Calls not going his way, so he sends in an "enforcer", or "goon" in this case, to send a "message". Now, yes a senior on the St. Joseph's basketball team is out for the rest of his senior campaign, and yes Chaney has suspended himself twice(He first suspended himself for a game, then was suspended by the school for the rest of the regular season (3 games), and then suspended himself again for the entire Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've seen the Sportscenters and ESPN News. Yeah, it's never good to be tied into the breaking of someone's arm, but let's face it, the "enforcer message" ploy is something that's been used by basketball teams at every level, save elementary recreational leagues, and we can't even be sure about that (see aggressive parents). The problem I saw was that callous interview after the game. I know I wasn't the only one who saw that. In a "not-so-sympathetic" way, coach Chaney basically said that he was going back to the "old-school" and reinstating "goons" to do his work (There's that word again).-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you ask me, that interview sealed the deal. If he would have came out and explained apologetically about what happened and that he only sent out his "goon" to play physically and didn't phathom a player breaking an arm, I guarentee we wouldn't be here writing these articles. Now, everyone's calling for his head and wants him gone for the season (which he basically is now under his own will). Personally, I don't see the point. They will not win the A-10 Tourney and will probably make an early exit in the NIT. That's like 4, 5 games tops. Not much difference than the original 3 game suspension handed out by Temple. If the people really wanted a "message" to be sent, the suspension would go into the next season.-------------------------------------------------------------------- People are also saying that if he wasn't a hall-of-fame coach, he'd be fired. I don't know if that's true or not. It depends on the situation.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's face it. He's "not no" Larry Eustacy, being caught on candid camera drinking with college coeds or Mike Price, twisted, up in an appartment with the stripper version of Peg Bundy. Now if you want to talk abaout having someone's head, that would be it, hall of fame or not (Yes folks, they were fired). And DEFINITELY let's not forget about Jim Tressel and the "Hundred Dollar Handshake University" also known as THEE Ohio State University (like there's another one and even if there was another one, it would need to include the word "scandalous" making it THEE SCANDALOUS Ohio State University to distinguish it from THEE "other" one, if that existed). In fact, that's a whole other article, and I will not divulge into it any further. You get my point.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Though unfortunate, too many other things that have been goin on have been overshadowed by this "goon" incident (example the roids infested pastime some fools call MLB-Main Lining (D)-Balls). In fact, I actually laughed when I heard the term "goon" first used. I haven't heard that word in years, and it reminded me of that movie called "The Goonies", except no one's saying, "Hey you guys!"-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1,976 people just admitted they never saw "The Goonies."---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Double AA is a writer for "Truth About Sports." He was the first alter ego created in a string of alter egos.

John Chaney sulks by himself, wondering about what's left to do after suspending himself for the A-10 tourney.
