Ode to a Friend
That Sad, Sad Life
By: A. E. Mus
For: A dearly departed Friend.
That I would have saved you sooner.
I know why you slit your wrists
I know how you have cried
I know that I did nothing
And now it’s my fault you have died.
I know that nasty habit
You say it all the time
The drugs, the booze, the cuts
The scars I wish were mine.
I know the soul, that screaming soul
That cries out to the Lord
To save her, burning, burning
From the demon horde.
I know the eyes that see too much
Hiding behind closed doors
Wondering, wondering when
It will end for evermore.
I know the ears that hear it all
More than you would have me know
And you running, running
Not knowing where to go.
I know the mouth that speaks nothing
Yet tells me all there is
In that sad, sad life
Of Edlin, Meredith Rose.
