Initially I lived in the singlewide home and basically "camped in style" during the winters and "suffered in style" during the summers till the electricity got here.
When it was time to bring the doublewide out, the sagebrush was grubbed out by hand and cleared almost 1/3 of an acre out so as not to break the hardpan dirt surface and make it harder on the trucker bringing out the house halves.
In the meantime I worked on the doublewide cleaning, repairing and replacing things. When the electricity came on, I jumped it across to the singlewide and then things really started moving along.
The spring following approval of the permits the place was painted, which made a world of difference. That same spring, some blackeyed susans came up voluntarily in front on either side of the porch and they have been coming back every year since.

I cleared some of the sagebrush out of the back, and pruned the two native mesquite trees, which made both of them a lot healthier. I trimmed back some of the more scraggly chaparral as well, and in the process found some wonderful wildflowers and fruit-bearing bushes which I divided and transplanted. Don't know what the fruit is but the birds love it and it is delicious. (Note: Since I did this page I have indeed found out what the fruit is....its Wolfberries!!)
Pretty much the only really hard work left is putting in the sheep pen and a small chicken house for the Banty chickens I look forward to having. And continue upkeep of the ground I have been entrusted.
I will be adding more to this page....images and other content, so please come back and visit!
