The lakes are owned by the National Trust and are situated on the northern slopes of Cader Idris, some 800 foot above sea level there are two natural lakes, the large lake has a beautiful small island and is some 27 acres in size the smaller lake is 13 acres fishing permits are required to fish for wild brown trout with fly or worm on the large lake, and for rainbow trout and wild brownies (fly only) on the smaller lake for those who want to drive a scenic route there is a narrow twisty road up from Arthog with cattle grids and gates that has wonderfull views of the Mawddach Estuary and Cader Idris alternately you can get to the lakes from Dolgellau and Abergwynant a strenuous 2 mile climb to the lakes from Arthog, with other footpaths around the lakes for those who like to walk |
