The John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail

GENERAL MORGAN'S RAID THROUGH SOUTHERN INDIANA
On July 8, 1863, Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan and two thousand cavalrymen crossed the Ohio River into Indiana. They crossed from Brandenburg, Kentucky, using two captured steamboats. For six days the raiders rode through Southern Indiana. Morgan and his men had conducted earlier raids, but this would be remembered as his Great Raid of 1863. It also was the only major military activity in Indiana during the Civil War. General Morgan's men spent six days crossing through southern Indiana, leaving behind a swath of devastated homesteads and burnt buildings. With their pursuers, led by Union General Hobson, only a few hours behind them, the raiders left Indiana and entered Ohio at Harrison, on July 13th.
Starting just outside of Mauckport near the Kentucky border and running through seven counties of Indiana before crossing into Ohio at Harrison, the John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail through Indiana follows the path taken by Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan and his Confederate Cavalry during the Great Raid of 1863. Most of the route taken by John Hunt Morgan through Indiana has been mapped out for a driving tour complete with directional markers and road-side points of interest. Morgan's Great Raid covered 1,000 miles and was the longest sustained cavalry raid of the Civil War. While given little significance in the overall history of the Civil War, it was regarded as a major event along the route he traveled.

Corkey Jones had a massive heart attack it killed 2/3 of his heart and the other 1/3 has a blood clot. we don't really know how long he's got. His biggest stress right now is that he wants to pay off the hospital, since they have been so good to him. I'm sure people thinking about going to Moonshine for the first time are thinking the weather looks pretty bad. I can assure you that it doesn't stop people from all over the continent from coming. Last year, Terry received an email Saturday morning of the Moonshine Lunch Run. A guy was asking him to reschedule the event since the weather was bad. Terry stated that he would, but didn't know what he would tell the 300 people already here from Maine, Florida, Arizona and so on. So, as you can see, word has gotten around about this event.
You will notice I have used "in the past" about donations on some of the pages, this is because the person that Terry would go down to Mexico with temporarily stopped doing this. Good News! In 2009, that person will be doing it again. This year we have decided to donate to this Mission and various local charities. For anyone out here that might be interested in going on a ride through Southern Indiana from Indpls to French Lick/West Baden area, heres your chance to meet and greet. We will meet on the southside of Indpls, starting point is the Shell Gas station at Frye road and US-31 just south of the Greenwood Park Mall. Ride take place thru the strecthes and twisties from Southside of Indy to West Baden/French Lick. Depart at 9:00am we gas and potty break at several points,arrive for a buffett style lunch at the resort.(1.5-2.0 hours) Then head back to Indy via several routes,reverse the route we came on or work our way to HWY-37 and make our way back to Indy,you make the call.I take 37 back and get the afternoon chores done.Back here around 3:00pm-ish. The Freeriders would like to welcome all new and old members by having a season opening ride.The ride will start out in several locations throughout OH/KY/IN, you can choose any starting location you wish. Each group will be led by at least two Charter Members (CM's). CM's will Captain and Tailgun each group. Captains will lead each group to the central meeting location at Big Bone State Park. After all groups have arrived we will have a brief meet and greet followed by a full group ride to Jane's Saddlebag for lunch. Depending on the time and logistics, a full group ride after lunch. Each group will have a brief pre-ride road safety meeting. Captains will choose the safest, least congested route to the park. The pace should be kept to a comfortable speed for new riders.

Plainfied, IN Lovely Lady Riders is holding a Ride and Hog Roast on April 26th,Noon - 10p, at the Firehouse Bar and Grill, 310 W Main St. Plainfied IN. Registration starting at Noon with last bike out at 2pm. This event is for Bikers and Non Bikers. While the ride is going on we will have special activities including a little pillow fighting between the LLR GIRLZ and the DIRTY DEEDS girls. The 100 mile Ride is $15.00 for single and $20.00 for couples and this does include the Hog Roast and Party. The Hog Roast and Party along cost $10.00 and all procedds will go to the SHARONSWEB AUSTISM FOUNDATION, a local group that raises awareness on Autism through education and activities.
