Cleaning

Your rat’s home should be cleaned at least once a week.

squishy washing

[Rats are very clean animals and wash regularly (like cats)]

All of the bedding and floor covering should be removed and the cage should either be washed with washing-up liquid and rinsed thoroughly with warm water.

Also, you can purchase cage-cleaning sprays from most pet shops (check that it kills bacteria) and follow the instructions on the back of the spray bottle.

If you have a cage then the bars can be cleaned using a small brush (e.g. toothbrush) or a damp cloth.squishy trying to eat the bars

[Squishy climbing on the bars (again)]

If you have an aquarium then it needs to be cleaned even more thoroughly; preferably with cage cleaning spray that kills bacteria.
