Venedocia Railway Company

The Venedocia Railway Company, at least as far as this site is concerned, is a model railroad.

Background

Morgan H. Morgan was born in Wales in 1833, immigrated to the US and eventually settled in Venedocia Ohio.  The family records say that in 1877 he and a couple of others  began a narrow gauge railroad intended to run between Delphos to Willshire.   The railroad apparently required a lot more money after his initial investment and he chose to sell his interests to his partners.  He did continue to work for the railroad for four additional years before turning to other interests in Venedocia.

Premise for the Model

That Morgan H. Morgan continued as partner and the line grew to serve western Ohio, developing a strong north-south route as well.  That railroad (unnamed in the family records) becomes the Venedocia Railway Company.  It continues into the fifties as an independent  subsidiary of the Nickel Plate Railroad.

Current Status of the Model

A variety of constructed kits, two modules with completed benchwork, and the usual truckload of things in boxes.  This represents slow but steady progress.    The focus on what gets built is usually governed by the NMRA Division's monthly contest categories, but it all will have a place on the layout.

Also on the Site

This site also provides a home for the NMRA Mid Central Region Division 4 page.  Both the NMRA and the Nickel Plate Historical and Technical Society are providing invaluable information and support.  The Nickel Plate Railroad ran through Venedocia, and very likely acquired Morgan H. Morgan's railroad as well.

About the real Venedocia

Venedocia achieved almost mythical status through the many stories told at family reunions.   Recent visits have proven that it is an interesting small town, in many ways ideal for modeling as part of a layout.    They've  had a very good website for a number of years (visit Venedocia link), which does an excellent job presenting the town and area.  Finally, we've recently been in touch with a resident who owns some vintage railroad equipment lettered for his railroad, the Venedocia and Eastern.  (We hope to have pictures at a later date.)
