Ceranna Dawn

Ceranna was born in December, the sixth day, in the year 950A.D in a small village along the sea. At age twenty, plague swept through the town killing almost everyone including Cera. Unlike the others though, something within the young woman rekindled her life. Unsure of how this had occurred, Ceranna began studying myths and legends only to find that she was one of a chosen few known as immortals. Her kind could not die by conventional means. Only the severing of her head would cause her final death. Wounds healed on their own and a sixth sense alerted them to others of their kind. With no family she left home and soon found herself in the mountain kingdom of Andalusia. It was there she found desolation. The plague had reached there too. Knowing no one, and in need of shelter, she found a family.

She nursed the parents and their daughter back to health. The high fevers caused by the plague all but wiped clean the family’s memory. Ceranna carefully constructed a story saying that she was part of their family and always had been. Though they didn’t remember, the family never thought she would lie about such a thing, and they treated her as such. Eventually, Andalusia fell causing Cera to wander once more. On her travels she learned the art of being an assassin and quickly became an adept. Being the only woman in a guild of men, Ceranna suffered the worst form of abuse any woman could possibly endure. The years of abuse took their toll on the girl, turning her hard and cynical. She soon set off on her own once more using her deadly talent to earn money. Eventually she settled in a nice city. She established her own guild of assassins, heading them all as their boss. To the citizens of the city she was just like them. She was an artist, able to create phenomenal portraits on parchment or canvas. She was also one of the most eligible women in the city. She had many suitors and would be in the company of a different man almost every day. Popularity, as it turned out, was nothing but heartache for Ceranna though. She had married seven times in the span of time she lived in the city.

Each marriage proved to be tragic as the men in her life began to resent, even loathe Ceranna’s independence. Women were meant to be seen, not heard; meant to stay home and care for their husbands and families. Cera was never that type and she refused to be made that way. The men wanted her as a decoration. She wanted to be considered an equal. Yet even out of all those unions only two children came from them, and they were from the two most recent husbands, Draven and Leo. Having children didn’t slow Ceranna down though, nor did it make her quit her dangerous occupation. Her last husband, Leo, left her, taking the children with him without Ceranna knowing it. For three years she searched for them, hoping to find some sign of their whereabouts, but to no avail. During her search she met another man, a bard, named Carmina Burana. He was another of her kind, and the two became fast friends while they traveled together. After Leo had left, Cera vowed never to get involved with another man, never to open herself up to more pain and heartache, but just like all promises, this too was broken. Carmina had fallen hard for Cera, seeing her as an equal in all things not just as a creature of beauty. On his travels through the realms he would always return to the city with a token for Ceranna, hoping it would win her affection. Cera accepted the gifts graciously, but her love could not be bought with mere trinkets. After a time Ceranna came to trust Carmina more than any other person in the world. She sat him down and told him that she would not be with him until he could prove he would never leave or mistreat her in any way. The story has yet to be completed.
