About the Power Academy
The Power Academy of Irish Dance was founded in August of 2000 by Lisa Power-Steinmetz, T.C.R.G., and Aubree Shelley, T.C.R.G. They wanted to share their love for the Celtic Arts, and especially the Art of Irish Step Dance.
The Power Academy was founded to be an affordable, friendly cultural experience for families to enjoy. Students of the Power Academy range in age from 5 to adult, and have performed in Ireland, at Festivals, at the 2002 Olympics, and with Artists such as the Trinity Irish Dancers and Riverdance Fiddler Eileen Ivers.
The Power Academy is certified by the An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha in Ireland, and follows the standards of excellence outlined by that organization. The Power Academy teaches a curriculum of Traditional Irish Step Dance, including solo softshoe and hardshoe, and Ceili, or group dancing. From there we build on this traditional foundation to create contemporary Irish Dance pieces in the style of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. While we rank high competitively, we also emphasize performing skills necessary to excel onstage outside of competition.
