Once, long ago, there had been two moons:The White Moon and the Dark Moon. The Dark Moon was ruled by Queen Nehelenia, a queen reputed for her stories and beauty. On an innocent whim, she wondered whether her beauty would last forever...but the answer that came back from her magic mirror changed her life forever. Her magic mirror's answer was not what she had wanted to hear and as a result Queen Nehelenia turned evil and began to steal people's dreams (starting with her subjects) to remain young and beautiful forever. And, in doing so she created the Remlus [Lemure], the ghosts of shadow that would compose the Dark Moon Circus.

As time passed Queen Nehelenia grew to resent the peaceful existence of the White Moon and sought to eclipse it. She learned of Elysion, Helios, and the Golden Crystal. When she attempted and failed to take the Golden Crystal from Helios, she imprisoned him within her palace. As punishment for her deeds, the ruling queen of the White Moon, Queen Serenity, impressioned Nehelenia within her own magic mirror and banished her and her kingdom to the far-side of the Dark Moon. Accidently, imprisioning Helios' physical form as well. It is Helios' spirit that Queen Nehelenia desire to recapture in hopes of bringing her eternal imprisionment to an end.
