"Part Twenty-Five: Stubborn Force"

"How long until nightfall?" asked Antirne.

"An hour at best," muttered Angelic with a grimace.

"Do you think we'll make it far enough by then?" Flitz worried allowed.

"If you two shut up and use your energy for walking, then maybe, yes."

The three half-ran in silence mile after mile, even after the sun itself had grown weary and sank below the tree line. Antirne worried constantly about the makeshift bandage Angelic had made for herself on their last stop to rest, which seemed to her hours ago.

Antirne looked to the half-elf beseechingly; unsure of how long the warrior could go on. The blood had been pouring for the last half-hour slowly, yet constantly from her wound. The path they walked was long and narrow, their breathing eradicated slightly from their last flight from battle. The half-elf glared determinedly at the road ahead of her, never stopping long to rest, never once complaining from the wound in her back. Somewhere, Flitz had landed; Antirne didn't know if it was on her or on Angelic, but either way she was thankful for the silence. Antirne eyes wandered to her wounded companion once more. I wish I could be as strong as her.... she thought silently.

"Angelic, we should check your wound soon," Antirne said softly. Angelic glanced at her for a moment before slowly reverting her gaze back to the road ahead of them.

"Do you think I should heal her?" mumbled Flitz nervously next to her ear. Antirne jerked violently, nearly knocking the tiny being off her shoulder. The fairy gave her a withering look before readjusting herself on the elf's shoulder. Her small mouth pulled taught, her brow furrowed; she looked at Angelic once more before sighing and relaxing once more on Antirne. "You can do that?" she asked Flitz softly, her voice hopeful. Flitz gave her another one of her looks before Antirne made her decision. "Angelic!" Antirne called softly, "you need to stop," the half-elf stopped shortly and waited silently. Antirne was unsure of what to do next, she looked to Flitz for help -- the fairy just showed her own hands and gave a small smile. "We need to heal you," she said steadily. "You can't go on like this. Your body is going to give up soon, and then we won't be able to continue at all," she finished sternly.

"I'll be fine," the half-elf replied stubbornly before continuing on the road. Antirne looked to Flitz for a moment before running up to the half-elf and grabbing her arm forcefully. She suddenly found herself staring at the cold steal of Angelic's pointed blade. "Don't," she growled at Antirne before shoving her back away from her and walking the long trek ahead of her once more.

Antirne stared hard at the ground, refusing to follow. She watched the half-elf continuing slowly to leave through the corner of her eye, but she wouldn't look at her. We've all been through so much, thought Antirne, so why do we turn against one another now? Flitz nudged her gently but Antirne shook her head in reply. She would not follow like this. Not like this. She looked at the trees; the way things were all arranged in nature. She looked to the sky, the birds, the flowers. Everything has it's own place, yet we do not... Her head began to hurt slightly, but she ignored her own pain, so concerned for another's.

"You're a fool," she accused, directing her eyes to Angelic's back. The half-elf stopped shortly and slowly turned to face her. The elf's eyes had become fiery, her stance determined. "You're such a fool," she repeated. Angelic's brow cocked in response as if to say, oh really?

"You have always helped us until now, but yet you will not allow us to help you. You're a hypocrite. If you're so bent on saving the world then why don't you save yourself a little in the process? That wound won't heal itself within the time you have left. You've been slowly bleeding to death since it happened. So if you want to continue to be of any use to us why don't you just sit down, shut up, and quit being such a stubborn jackass and let Flitz heal you." If she can. Flitz stared open-mouthed at her in shock. From the corner of her eye, she watched the fairy look from her to the half-elf frightened. Antirne refused to look away first, she was determined to stare down the bleeding idiot in front of her. Angelic matched her gaze steadily; the air around them began to become hot and uncomfortable. The fairy shifted herself nervously; not really knowing what to do.

"Do it and get it over with," Angelic muttered looking away for the first time. Flitz didn't need to be told twice, immediately she had flown into place and began to heal the half-elf. Antirne never once took her eyes off of the forlorn figure in front of her. She wanted to kill her for her stubbornness and hug her for her bravery. In the end, she merely stood there, watching Flitz perform a miracle she herself could never conceive. She had resolved hours ago not to complain of herself; but now, standing here in the dark, she suddenly felt every muscle ache, and every nerve twitch within her. She bit the inside of her cheek to stay wake and watchful, letting her eyes wander to her surroundings. She looked for any sign of predators or humans visible to her in the dark forest around them.

"We make camp near here," said Angelic calmly as Flitz finished and floated away from her in a slight daze.
