Modern Symbolism, Ink and Colored Pencil

By the numbers: Pencil sketching, 10 hours, Inking, 2 hours, Coloring, 5 hours. Total : 17 hrs

This took a LONG time to do... I've never drawing guns before so even that was hard, but even more so was trying to imagine a flag morphing into a gun... oh and that is
AK-47 ...Soviet Issue? I'm not entirely sure... The project assignment was to take two unrelated objects and morph one into the other, using full color.  I decided to let my project have a bit of political meaning....

Technical aspects aside, I hope it's meaning is up to interpretation.  What you see in this piece really depends on your point of view.  I asked our school crossing guard what he thought it meant and he thought it was commenting on the choices America has had to make in order to protect and defend it's freedom.  Another teacher said it was the perverting of the ideals that our flag once stood for.  What do you see in this?
