Incas - The men wore simple tunics reaching to just above the knees. Over this they wore a loose cloak. On their feet they would wear grass shoes or leather sandals. The women dressed in ankle-length skirts and usually with a braided waistband. They wore a cap on their head and on their hair they pinned a folded piece of cloth. In the highlands all clothes were made of wool. In the coastal area cooler fabrics were used. They wore clothes that suited their climate. In the highlands, the Inca people wore clothes made of alpaca and llamas wool. In the coastal regions the Inca wore clothes made of cotton. Nobles usually wore garments made of fine cloth and were adorned with jewelry of fine metals. The normal wear of all the citizens in average weather was interesting. Men wore loincloths and tunics and capes in cold weather. Women wore long dresses and square shawls called mantas over their shoulders. Both men and women wore sandals and colorful sashes. Aside from the tunic, a person of importance wore a llawt'u, a series of cords wrapped around the head. To establish his importance, the Inca Atahualpa commissioned a llawt'u woven from vampire bat hair. The leader of each ayllu, or extended family, had its own headdress.
