Siblings: L'ran, 28, Brownrider.

Persona Appearance:
Nasura is of average height and weight, standing at five foot five and weighing one hundred twenty-five pounds. She is well-muscled from her turns of dragonriding, and is built along stocky lines. She has a large, square face framed by wavy blonde hair. Her hair is really quite an amazing color; most blondes have light tan or near-white hair; hers is truely yellow, like daffodils. The strands are thick and wiry, and her hair tends to frizz when she's been riding, or on windy days.
Persona Personality:
Nasura is a friendly, hard-working woman who is devoted to her dragon. That, at least, is how someone in her wing would describe her. Nasura is one of those people who we all wish we were like - she never gives up, she always works hard, she doesn't let little things like walking pneumonia stop her from attending wing meetings, she has the best work ethic in all Pern. She has the tenacity found in old-Earth bulldogs: once she has a grip on the throat, she doesn't let go.
She's also as stubborn as a mule. If she thinks she's right, she never backs down until solid evidence is before her. Then, she has the sense to gracefully demure, but not before then. She doesn't take a stand on many things, knowing which battles to plunge into, but she is willing to fight.
What Nasura hides from everyone else is that she isn't always as sure of herself as she seems. She is terribly shy around other women, not knowing how to approach them. Around men, she does alright, but she is somewhat intimidated by bronzeriders, especially ones like T'lobl, who are severe traditionalists. She hides her nervousness by throwing herself into her work, and generally it's a good disguise.
Persona History:
Nasura was born in the North, in the strictly traditional Fort Weyr. Her mother was your average lower-caverns worker whose sole claim to fame was an excellent recipe for packfish and tuber stew. She fell in love with a bluerider, who in turn grew attached to the humble cook. They settled down together, Weyrmated. S'ran and Namelle had two children, Nasura the elder sibling.
Nasura and her brother, Leran, had a happy childhood, growing up in the creche and under their mother's care, for the most part. Their father doted upon his two children and spoiled them outrageously, as he saw them less often than he'd like, and Nasura loved her father more than anyone else until she was fourteen turns old.
At fourteen turns, Nasura met a candidate named Elin, who laughed at everything and danced in the rain. Elin and Nasura became inseperable; the two were always together when they could be. Nasura, being a weyrbrat of the right age, also stood for several clutches with Elin, though neither impressed for some turns. As Nasura grew up and became a woman, she realized that she loved Elin, and, not only that, she was attracted to her too. The feelings confused her; she knew she was supposed to be attracted to boys, and she didn't know why she felt little for them. One day, which had been like all the others - she and Elin had been sitting by the Weyrlake, wondering which of the girls would impress the gold egg on the sands - she broached the subject. Elin was shocked; she had no idea the extent of her best friend's feelings.. But, she loved her friend as well, and tentatively the experimented with lesbian relations.
Things did not work out well. Elin did not feel the same way as Nasura did, and a rift grew between them that Nasura deeply resented. To make matters worse, Elin impressed at the next hatching to a green dragonet, and she was effectively cloistered off in the Weyrling Barracks for the next few turns. Nasura became extremely depressed, even opting not to stand for a hatching, and just drifted around the Weyr lower caverns. At that point, her mother took Nasura under her wing and began to teach her how to cook, clean, and take care of children so that she'd always have something useful she could do in the Weyr.
This did little to boost Nasura's confidence, but she applied herself, and to some extent lifted out of her depression. She was nineteen, and had no prospects, but she was content just to be a lower caverns worker. She began standing again, on the off chance that she might impress, and, on her twentieth birthday, no less, she impressed. But not to a green. No, the ninth blue in the hatching made a beeline for Nasura, and Kledrenth became the lifemate of only the twenty-third female bluerider in Fortian history.
Weyrlinghood was rough on Nasura. She had no friends among the male riders, and the four female greenriders were wary of her, thinking that she must be a bit of a pervert to impress a blue. The Weyrlingmaster, an older bronzerider, thoroughly disapproved of a woman riding a blue, and showed it with no shame. Life was miserable for Nasura there, and she couldn't wait to graduate to a real fighting wing.
Her wingleader was a young and charismatic man, a forward thinker, and he treated Nasura as just another bluerider. Nasura was delighted by this; she had never wanted special treatment. Her nine turns in the Center Flight's Sky Searers' Wing were happy ones, in which she pursued a relationship with a female greenrider. Then, at the age of thirty-one, her life fell apart. The woman she had been in love with was transferred to another Weyr without even trying to prevent it, she herself was sent to another Wing for no apparent reason, and her mother became very ill, for reasons the healers could not understand.
Eventually, it was discovered that her mother had cancerous tumors in her stomach region, and the healers did not know how to treat it. Nasura watched, distraught, as Namelle faded away into a mere wraith before passing on. Heartbroken, Nasura drifted through life, not able to concentrate. Her wingleader traded her for another rider, disgusted and quite sure that his beliefs that women were weak and foolish things had been justified. Eventually, Nasura got her life back together, but she found that she had developed the reputation of being foolish and flighty, and no wingleader wanted her.
Nasura would not stand for that. She approached the Weyrleader directly, and asked for a transfer to the Weyr farthest from Fort. Wryly, he said that that would mean traveling to Atora, the backwoods Weyr of Pern, butt of many an elitist joke. Nasura, who had laughed and many such jokes in her time, payed no heed to the Weyrleader and accepted the transfer. Fort was not sorry to see the back of her, and Nasura was more than glad to see a Weyr as yet not under the impression that she was stupid or flighty.
