Candidate DeronPersona Information: Name: Deron Age: 14 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Rank/Craft: Candidate, Drudge. Mother: Unknown rider Father: Adoel, 33, Laundress Siblings: No full siblings Foster Parents: Brought up in Creche Significant Other: None Children: None Persona Appearance Deron is a good-looking boy, with a wide, affable smile and a head of messy brown hair. He has a shy look about him, not as bold or rude as some of the other boys, and his light brown eyes seem to express a worry that people won't like him. Deron is strong, and will grow up to be a well-muscled young man; two turns of work in the Lower Caverns have given him endurance and strength that will help should he ever impress. He's still growing, and very quickly; his voice changed when he was thirteen, and while he's now about 5'8", in another year or two, he should reach 5'11". He is constantly getting too big for his clothes, so his ankles and wrists are always poking out of his sleeves and pant-legs. He dresses plainly, in whatever the headwoman sees fit to give him - normally, just plain cotton pants and shirts. He has no really nice things; just a shirt in the weyr's blue and silver for when he's serving during a banquet or gather at the Weyr. Persona Personality: Deron is a sweet kid. He's a little shy around people he doesn't know, and is very respectful to them. He is also very, very careful around anyone with rank above him - almost everyone, since when there isn't a clutch on the sands, he's considered a drudge by the headwoman. He doesn't grovel, but he has a self-depreciating manner about him, as if he already knows he'll never amount to much in life, and so is prepared to worship those who will. It isn't that he doesn't have any self-esteem; he knows that he can work hard and well, and does. He just doesn't feel that he has the talents and skills that other people posess. This isn't entirely true. He is very good with the draconics - a green dragon once spoke to him, as did the blue who searched him when he was eleven. He is also good with firelizards; he has a talent for calming frightened ones that the owners can't control or soothe. Deron isn't the most intelligent person in all Pern, but he learns quickly if told once or twice, and works hard at something so that he'll always remember how to do it again. He has an excellent memory, and can remember even back when he was only one turn old. The most unusual thing about Deron, considering that he's a Weyr lad, is that he is frightened - terrified - of girls his age. He has always been bossed by women (the Creche mother, the headwoman, his own mother) and so cannot conceive of them as, well, sex objects. He stutters and blushes when he has to have a conversation with a girl his age, especially if they're pretty; he's only just begun to become conscious of them. Persona History: Deron's mother was and is a flightmoth; she became pregnant after a flight when she was nineteen. One pregnancy was enough for her, and since then she's taken care to befriend a greenrider for the occaisional pops between. She got rid of her son as soon as he was weaned - rather early, at only five months. He was a huge thumb-sucker in the creche, and it took Dione turns to get him to stop the habit. He was a fairly normal weyrbrat, though, and grew up a reasonably happy child. He never stood out in harper classes, and no discernable talent was noticed by the usual apprenticing age of eleven. In that year, however, he was searched by a blue dragon. As Deron was never apprenticed, and had no parent to support him (his mother had ceased to care much about him turns ago), when he reached his twelfth year he was assigned to work under the Headwoman, essentially as a drudge. He doesn't mind the work, though it's hard, and he's such an affable sort no one gives him trouble for all his young age. He hasn't impressed at any of the recent hatchings; all those during turn 197 were during his first turn of candidacy, and no dragon even glanced at him. He's eagerly awaiting the next clutch, as it will be a chance for him to impress, and stop drudge work; while he is sure that it's all he's really fit for, it's tedious work. He loves dragons, and would give almost anything to be a rider, thread or not. He hasn't quite comprehended the danger of the stuff.
