Searchrider Belis
Green Mensorth
Persona Information:
Name: Belis
Age: 28 Turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank/Craft: Searchrider
Mother: Enlisiora, 51, Drudge.
Father: R'bez, 48, Brownrider.
Siblings: Zaliora, 14, Candidate.
Foster Parents: None
Significant Other: None
Children: None
Persona Appearance:
Belis's natural hair color is dark brown, but southern sun has lightened and streaked it. She has cut it short, as T'lobl does not approve of unruly hair on female wingriders, and the harsh trim does not really suit her square-jawed face. Her large brown eyes are friendly, and her wide, pink-lipped mouth smiles easily. Her face is deeply tanned, already showing the signs of weather and wear; though she is still young, wrinkles have already formed and deepened. Still, she is not unattractive, if not really pretty, and Belis is comfortable in her own skin.
Belis is tall for a woman, at 5'9", and her stride and manner is as confident as any male wingrider. She is sometimes mistaken for a man, with her height and masculine haircut and dress, but it doesn't bother her. Belis is not particularly interested in her looks, and she prefers to dress plainly and not have to bother with frills and bows and heavy skirts.
Persona Personality:
Belis has never been a shy girl, or one to easily take offense. Sociable, friendly, and confident even in the creche as a weyrbrat, these traits serve her well when male wingriders see her as somehow "lesser." She doesn't mind, and is content simply to do as well as they in flight practice and wing drills, and then see who scoffs. She knows that she is not beautiful, and that some are put off by her deep voice and decidedly not feminine mannerisms, but she really doesn't care - she has Mensorth, and her wing, and the Weyr.
Belis has a knack for making friends. She is a kind, goodhearted woman who, if she had failed to impress, would have worked as a dragonhealer; she has a bedside manner and warm smile that many people find endearing. She is not afraid to walk up to someone and introduce herself, nor to greet a new and frightened candidate who is as yet unsure of his or her place in the Weyr. She loves her dragon, and enjoys washing her, flying with her, and showing her off to those without dragons of her own. When she gains more experience, she hopes to work with the Candidatemaster.
Persona History:
Belis was yet another weyrbrat; her mother was an average woman and her father a decidedly undistinguished brownrider, friendly but never particularly ambitious or successful. He was fond of his children, and when he remembered about Belis and her much younger sister Zaliora, he would drop in, give them sweets that their mother thoroughly disapproved of, and then leave after a bearhug and a visit with his dragon. Belis was fond of her father, but when his wing was removed north to Ista, she shed few tears; they had never really been close.
Belis was expected just to be a drudge, and maybe someday a cook, as she wasn't bad at it. Belis wanted to be a healer, but the master at the time did not want many female apprentices, thinking they were too flighty to handle blood, and would faint at the sight of most wounds. Belis has never fainted in her life, but as she was female, no one really took her seriously. So, Belis stood as a candidate, and on her seventh try finally got an armful of green. Her sister, Zaliora, was by then five turns old, and her sister's impression was what now inspires Zaliora to stand - she will always remember Belis's jubilant face as she embraced the hatchling Mensorth.
Belis was the only female to impress at that clutch, and Weyrling training was difficult, but she survived, grinning and bearing it. Though there was a bit of pranking by some of the rowdier males - a few soiled clothes, itchwort, crawlers - Belis was not particularly fazed, and showed it, always laughing at the boys and young men who had perpetrated the petty crimes.
She graduated, with grudging reccomendation from the Weyrlingmaster, and was drafted into a wing that is now in Igen. However, she requested a transfer to the Weyrleader's wing after hearing rumors of the impending shift north; she had no desire to leave her family, and as she had always been an exemplary wingrider, she was indeed transferred. It has recently been discovered that Mensorth is a good searchdragon; she searched Zaliora and Deron, both weyrbrats, and after the Weyrwoman's flight, will do her first searches outside of the Weyr.
Dragon Information:
Name: Mensorth
Age: 9 Turns
Color: Green
Dragon Appearance:
Mensorth is the type of green that makes every rider wish that they had become greenriders - she is lithe, graceful, and trim, with a long, arched neck, narrow head that tapers to a refined nose and mouth, a slim but well-muscled body with large, wide wings, and a long and perfectly proportioned tail. She is entirely feminine, from her mincing movements to her aerial tricks to her almost flirtatious looks at browns and bronzes to her coy manner of preening herself when infront of others. She is, to dragons, a "babe."
She is a bright green, very sleek and shiny as she is always well-oiled, and her color is that of leaves in late spring, lush but not yet dark, and with more depth than grass-green shades. The color darkens on her ridges and headknobs, pales on her wingsails and underbelly, and lightens slightly to a more yellow color around her eyes and nostrils. It is a very elegant color for a dragon, and suits her perfectly.
Dragon Personality:
While Belis might care little for her appearance and standing in other people's eyes, Mensorth is a vain and prim dragon, always trying to be both flirtatious and yet coy. She loves males, especially the browns, and her flights are wild, prolonged, and difficult for less enduring dragons. Mensorth is a very good flier, and she can give all dragons a run for their money. She has a reputation among the male dragons that most greens have to work hard for; it just comes naturally to Mensorth.
The dragon is a gossip by nature, and enjoys nothing quite so much as sunning by the weyrlake and chatting up a nice brown or blue, talking to a fellow green about the last bronze to participate in her flight, discussing rider peculiarities, and otherwise getting in the thick of draconic social circles. Mensorth has had few dealings with Golds, prefering to stay away from any who might dim her feminine beauty; she rather dislikes them, since they distract her suitors. However, she is always very polite when spoken to by them, as it wouldn't be seemly for a green to get uppity. Belis is very font of her, and Mensorth is devoted to her rider. Though both have different approaches and styles, the two are inherently friendly, and their oddities fascinate and delight each other.
