Major Depression
- Continual low moods
- Feelings of anguish and hopelessness
- Loss of interest in most activities
- Tedious to motivate themselves to do any activities
- Have low self–esteem
- Constant thoughts of death and suicide
- Lasts about 6 months.
- A kind of recurring disorder
Atypical Depression
Also known to be a subtype of our previous type, Major Depression
- Hallucination
- Example: Hearing voices but in reality, no one is calling you
- Delusions
- Example: Unreasonable thinking
Bipolar Depression
- Have moods between extreme high when they feel invincible and frantic when they feel despair (cyclical)
- Brain is overactive
- Lack of sleep
- Leads to inability to concentrate
- Also known as manic depression
- Last for at least a few weeks
Dysthymic Disorder
- Usually last for at least 2 years (Long-Term)
- Fatigue
- Eating problems
- Constant negative thinking
- Arduous in concentrating which can lead to memory problems
- Can lead to chronic disorder
Postnatal Depression (PND)
- Also known as “baby blues”
- Occurs during the first year of parenthood
- When the birth of a child or 6 months after
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Happens during the fall winter seasons and disappears during the spring - summer seasons
The symptoms :
- Excessive eating and weight-gain
- Oversleeping
- Reserved or keeping silent
