Membership – Tom Love
All of the waiting is now over and the annual SPCC Spring Open House has taken place. The weekend started with a live remote broadcast hosted by Dan Gaffney and WGMD on Friday between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Thanks to all who worked hard to have our club in prime condition for this event. While it was planned to build enthusiasm and support for the main event on Saturday, a number of prospective members attended and I will be following up with these people. A special thanks to Clayton Bunting, Fred Dean, Jonas Meyer, Lynn Montana, Tim Mumford, Benny Peta and Bud Townsend who each did a great job of supporting SPCC by participating in the live broadcast. Finally, thanks to all our members in the Grille Room Friday evening and those playing in the Friday Night Mixer. Their involvement gave proof to the lively, friendly and inviting atmosphere that is Sussex Pines Country Club.
Our Saturday Open House got started at 11:00 am and wrapped up at about 6:30 pm. We were very fortunate that the threatened rain held off until after the Open House concluded. Attendance at the Open House increased dramatically over previous years’ events. A total of 66 prospective members came to take a look at Sussex Pines and I am confident that they were all impressed with the outstanding condition of the golf course and the clubhouse. I would like to thank all who worked very hard to have everything in peak condition. While I don’t doubt some of those attending were primarily interested in a complimentary round of golf, I am equally comfortable that the majority were seriously considering joining a private club, and given what they saw on Saturday I think we have a very good chance of gaining 10 or 12 new members. Time will tell. I hope that the truly interested will be getting in touch with us quickly. If we don’t hear from them, be assured someone from the membership committee will be following up by phone and e mail. We had numerous winners of hourly drawings on both Friday and Saturday. I won’t list all of them, but I will name the winners of the 4 drawings for memberships at Sussex Pines. They are:
1. Full Shareholder…..Ben and Araina Sala
2. Full Shareholder (a tie)…..Stephen J. Hartstein
3. Social…John Higgins (upgrading to Shareholder)
4. Limited Social…..Toby Vandiver (possibly upgrading to Young Adult)
Congratulation to all the winners!
Last but certainly not least, a special thanks to each and every member who served as a host for the Saturday event. It could not have happened without you. Whether you signed people in, showed people around the clubhouse and golf course, played a round with a prospective member or were there to answer questions, your support is greatly appreciated. I will be keeping you informed on new members from the Open House activities.
