Best of the Best - One of our absolute favorite stories.
Why: Arguably the best popslash AU out there. Maybe even one of the best JuC stories out there, too. Josh is the Chicago city boy out of his element. Justin is the farmer's kid and small town golden boy. Kati's writing is incredible, and she is taking her time in developing a relationship between the pair that is deep, touching, and epic. Go. Why: One of the best coming out fics in any fandom - hands down. When JC accidentally outs himself at a sound check, he is left to deal with the fallout - and Justin's sudden interest. There are some remarkably realistic moments here, especially with the family issues, but it's the steady flow of humor running through the story that elevates it to the Best of the Best status.
Why: Justin is the small town boy stifled by his 'perfect' life. JC is the drifter, waiting tables at the local diner. JC introduces Justin to the 'On the Road' lifestyle, but is Justin willing to leave behind the safety of his perfect world?
Why: After a fan attacks him on stage, a traumatized JC finds himself unable to sleep. Justin wants to help, but will it be enough?
Why: Even with his solo success, Justin isn't quite as together as he appears. Is JC the answer to Justin's insecurities, or will he be the cause of a host of new ones? Beth paints a beautiful portrait here of friendship, need, and acting on instinct.
Why: Why, oh why are Rhys's stories so damn hard to summarize? Maybe because they are so good, that so much happens in an every-day-kind-of way? (JR especially has a particular weakness for 'slice of life' stories). The guys are back and recording again...oh hell...just go read it right now!
Why JR likes it: Established couple JC and Justin decide to initiate Lance into the world of gay sex. This story goes from sappy to scorching and back again in 0 to 60. Still, it's worth the read.
Why DS likes it: Private school AU where Justin is the transfer student who falls for popular kid JC. This story touches on some real issues, but there are a few oddities to it that just struck us wrong (ie why does Justin's family leave the house so that Justin and JC can get freaky? Wouldn't it make more sense for the guys to get a hotel room)? Still, it's an entertaining read.
Why: JC and Lance decide to pull a practical joke on the other guys by acting like a couple. But the joke may just end up being on them. Told in 3 parts, the first time point of view of JC is absolutely stunning.
Why: Ah, the story that brought us into the fandom. Kim G. Is one of the best fic writers on the web, so when we exhausted the other fandoms, we finally broke through the final slash frontier - RPS. Little did we know we were about to be consumed. In a Post-sync world, the band has scattered with the exception of JC and Chris, who are running a production company. Accentuated by a profound backstory, this is one of the best told friends-to-lovers progressions in fanfic.
Why: This is truly an epic story, told essentially in two parts. The primary story finds Chris as a high school teacher with JC as his live-in boyfriend. Justin and Lance are childhood friends. When previously straight Justin starts having feelings for openly gay Lance, he turns to Chris for advice. As the story unfolds, the lives of these two couples intersect in ways they never would have predicted. This story hits close to home for us, as we've watched too many of our friends live through some of the major plotlines. Painfully real in places, do not miss this one.
Why JR likes it: Chris runs a retreat and horse ranch up in Montana. JC is recovering from a breakdown when his friends drag him on a vacation. Unfinished, but worth the read.
Why JR likes it: JC goes missing and is presumed dead. Joey figures out that his feelings for JC were much more than he ever dreamed, but does his discovery come too late?
Why: Everything that a post-sync story should be. Successful but unhappy in his solo career, Justin brings on and equally adrift Lance as his new manager. Long but well paced, the story continues through the hook-ups, breakups, family illnesses, marriages and children of the guys, not to mention the possibility of the long awaited reunion tour.

Why: Nobody writes Lambs like Sandy. Nobody. We both adore this story. After the hiatus, Lance and Justin come out to the media as a couple, but it isn't until they're about to break up that they start to realize that there may be something real under all the layers of media-induced crap. If the MTV Cribs scene doesn't melt your heart, you are not human.
Why: This is one of those perfect stories - the kind that keeps you so enthralled, you dread the fact that it will eventually come to an end. In a post-sync universe, Lance walks into Chris's bar after years with no contact. With Chris's life on stand-still and Lance still hurting from the end of his long-term relationship with Justin, will they be able to overcome the past, let alone deal with the present?
Why: Lance returns from space to find some unexpected changes in the group dynamics. Lily manages to make this story both sweet and hot at the same time. One of the rare 'it doesn't make us giggle -- in a bad way' GSF premises - of which there are too few in the fandom.
Why: There were five in the bed and the little one said: "We have here among us, two young men as yet uninitiated into the brotherhood of Meaningless Assisted Gratification." Need a roadmap? Didn't think so. But you might just need a cold shower when you're done. Plus one of the sweetest JuC moments in fandom.

Why: To keep himself busy in a post-rehab and on-hiatus world, AJ gets a part time job of sorts. When Justin unexpectedly crosses his path, a curious-yet-reluctant AJ seems to find himself a new friend.
Why DS likes it: There isn't enough good Nick/JC fic out there, and this story is solid. Nick’s got a new neighbor at his vacation getaway. Nick offers his help in not only rebuilding JC’s house, but JC’s bruised heart as well. The only shortcoming is the two-dimensional bad guy!Justin.
Why JR likes it: AJ finds himself doing Eminem a favour. What starts out as an uneasy truce eventually develops into something much more. JR loves the development of the relationship between AJ and Eminem. What disappointed DS was the too-easy plot device and the out-of-character Kevin as the bad guy. Still, this story is long, well written and has some truly monitor melting sex scenes.
Why: The perfect Letterboys story - of which there just aren't enough of on the web. Brian and AJ are last minute additions to one of the Challenge for the Children. Fed up with his own bandmates, JC reaches out a hand in friendship to a kindred spirit.Direct link to story not available. Some scrolling required.
Why DS likes it: Think "The Dead Zone" with JC in the Johnny Smith role. Lots of plot holes here, but the concept is quirky enough to earn an honorable mention here.
Why JR likes it: JC has a problem.
Why DS likes it: If you can deal with a touch of Mary Sue and a pop singer with suicidal tendencies, this epic is worth a read. JC buckles under the pressures of his life. The road to recovery is long, and may not be as easy as it appears. JR some issues with the story, where some of it seems a little off, especially the reactions of the other guys. But having never been in the situation, we probably shouldn't judge. On the other hand, there are some truly chilling moments, like JC's PSA, which was enough to leave us both stunned.
Why we both like it: Suffering from severe depression, JC goes home. While in therapy, he makes a discovery that will lead him back into his past. But is he ready to meet it face to face? While we both liked this series, we were both a bit put off by interactions between JC and his parents - too many pet names and too much little boy treatment. Still, there aren't many fics out there willing to brush on this topic, and of the few that exist, this one is pretty in depth and well written. The fifth (Building Bridges) and sixth parts (Truth and Consequences) are available on live journal.
