Successful Lawn Care

1. Select the right seed for your lawn. If you have lots of sun you will need a grass variety that will tolerate heat and drought. If you have a shady area, you will need a seed that requires just a few hours of sun a day.

2. Select a quality seed for the job.
A. Make sure the seed in a perennial variety. Annual grass is only good for the season.
B. Look at the back of the grass seed bag and make sure the seed is not outdated.
C. Check out the weed seed content , the less weed seed the purer the grass seed.
D. Determine the yield of the grass seed. A fifty pound bag of grass seed that cost $50.00 and covers 5000 square feet in not a good purchase. A purer seed will give your a better deal and cover more area saving you time and money.

3. Use a starter fertilizer when planting new grass or sod. Starter fertilizer is high in nitrogen and phosphorous which helps both the plant and root growth. Don’t cover the seed with hay because the hay will germinate.

4. Water the grass at least twice a week giving a total of a half-inch of water per session. Water in the morning, watering in the afternoon evaporates quickly and evening watering risks fungus growth.

5. Keep your grass length higher, especially during the summer and drought conditions. The higher the grass blade, the longer the grass root.

6. Control weeds and insects. They will rob your grass of moisture, nutrients and damage the plant.

7. Maintain a consistent fertilization program. Your grass needs to eat. We can make sure you have the best looking lawn in town. Give us a call at 302-284-8919
