Mission Statement

FNL promotes healthy teen lifestyles and works to reduce the deaths, injuries, and related problems caused by teen alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. This is accomplished by developing exciting, meaningful, and positive activities with the collaboration and support of the youth, schools, parents, and the community.

Philosophy

The youth within the FNL chapters are the ones responsible for and best able to have a positive influence on their peers. Through the chapters, youth mobilize their peers to live positive, healthy lifestyles free from alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. The youth, together with their advisors, develop positive activities, community service, and social action projects which impact and influence their peers, schools, and communities. Youth have an abundant supply of energy and the FNL county staff and chapter advisors offer guidance, support, and training to channel this energy in positive ways.

Goals

  • The FNL chapter is commited to reducing the deaths, injuries, and related problems caused by teen alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
  • The FNL chapter is a youth-centered action group where high school age teens, with the support of adult advisors, parents, school, and/or community leaders, encourage their peers to live alcohol, tobacco, and other drug free lifestyles.
  • The FNL chapter also works within the whole community to promote awareness and change as well as providing exciting, positive activities for teens.
  • FNL activities are 80% fun and 20% message and promote their message through sharing of experiences and modeling of positive activities, rather than lecturing.
  • FNL advisors and youth leaders are concerned individuals who are positive role-models and able to reach out and encourage youth through mentoring and example.
  • Target Population

Youth of all ethnic and socioeconomic groups are invited and encouraged to participate in the membership and leadership of the Chapter. Since teens often tend to break up into groups or cliques, chapters will counter this with workshops and understanding that encourage youth to reach out to the entire community and be inclusive to all, exclusive to none.
