As Dale Earnhardt's
oldest son,
Kerry Earnhardt's racing career has been overshadowed by that of his
half-brother's, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Kerry said his goal remains the
same: getting a
full-time Nextel Cup ride. He's hoping the auditions he's had with
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) in 2004 will help him reach that goal in
the
near future.
Kerry Earnhardt will compete
in five NASCAR Nextel Cup Series races in 2004 for RCR in the #33 Bass
Pro Shops Chevy. Earnhardt, 34, is the oldest son of Dale Earnhardt
who, with RCR, earned 67 race wins and six
of his seven NASCAR Cup Series championships. Kerry is scheduled
to
compete April 25 at Talladega, May 22 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in
Concord for the NASCAR All-Star Challenge, July 3 at Daytona, Oct. 3 at
Talladega and Atlanta on Oct. 31 [Halloween]. Earnhardt has one Nextel
Cup start, driving the #71 Marcis Auto Racing Chevrolet at Michigan on
Aug. 20, 2000. RCR and Bass Pro Shops have
maintained a relationship since 1998, when the nation’s leading
retailer of premium outdoor gear signed on as an associate sponsor of
the No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet. That same year, Dale Earnhardt drove
a Bass Pro Shop paint-schemed car in The Winston at Lowe’s Motor
Speedway.
