Dale Earnhardt inherited the racing bug from his dad, Ralph, who he used to follow around the track in North Carolina. He in turn passed it on to his own kids, Dale Jr., Kerry, Kelly and Taylor. It's no surprise that with such a strong racing lineage, he was always motivated by one thing...winning championships. As the Intimidator, Earnhardt moved into his 26th season in NASCAR with a formidable track record to reflect upon. As the first driver in NASCAR history to win Rookie of the Year and the series title at the Winston Cup Series level, he went on to dethrone the King, Richard Petty, by tying up seven Winston Cup Series Championships. But Earnhardt did not earn his reputation as the Intimidator for graceful passes. As Rookie of the Year in 1979, Earnhardt paved a fast track to the top and won the Winston Cup Series Championship in 1980. That feat was followed by six more championships in 1986, '87, '90, '91, '93 and 1994 for the Richard Childress team. In February 1998, Earnhardt achieved the one thing that had evaded him... he won "The Great American Race" at Daytona 500. Revered by fellow competitors, Earnhardt has definitely earned a place in the history books and will be remembered by Team Monte Carlo and his fans alike as a legend in his own time.
