The follwing is a re-write of an entry found at the Court House in Richmond, Kentucky. There is no actual marriage certificate just an entry in a book.
This is to certify that on the 11th day of August 1869 the rites of matrimony were legally solimized by me betweeen John Pierce and Serelda Green at F. Greens home in the County of Madison in the presence of James Todd and J.W. Todd. Signed J.W. Krendrell
John and Relda were married the same year that the first baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, began a successful eight month tour of the United States.

WILLIAM PIERCE (JOHN1)
was born April 05, 1869 in Kentucky, died March 21, 1927 in Richmond , Indiana.
He married LILLIAN RICHARDSON September 28, 1898 (daughter of John Richardson and Fannie Hardie)in Richmond Kentucky.
Notes According to death records William was born on April 5, 1869, four months before his parents John and Serelda were married. William was born five days before the Fifteenth Amendment, stating that suffrage shall not be denied or abridged because of race, color or previous condition of servitude, was ratified. William died on Monday evening, March 21, 1927, he was 58. William was attacked by a wild pig. He died at his home on 129 South Ninth Street, Richmond, Indiana. Services were held at the home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 1927. The Rev. M.S. Cook officiated the service. He was burried at Earlahm College Cemetery there is no headstone.
Marriage Notes The Commonwealth of Kentucky required a $100 Marriage Bond for William and Lillian to be married. Here is how it read: Be it known, that William Pierce as principal, and T.J. Witt as surety, are jointly and severeally bound to the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the sum of One Hundred Dollars. THE CONDITION OF THIS BOND IS AS FOLLOWS: That, whereas, Marriage is intended to be solemnized between the above bound William Pierce and lilly Richardson. Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage, the Bond shallbe void; otherwise it shall remain in full force and effect. Bryan for the Democratic Presidential nomination in St. Louis. Vernon died at the age of 81 the same day that Willie Banks of the United States, set the triple jump record of 58' 5". He died from complications of alzheimers and emphysema. He was a farmer most of his life. He is buried in Earlam College Cemetery, Richmond Indiana. He married LILLIAN RICHARDSON September 28, 1898 (daughter of John Richardson and Fannie Hardie)in Richmond Kentucky.
Notes According to death records William was born on April 5, 1869, four months before his parents John and Serelda were married. William was born five days before the Fifteenth Amendment, stating that suffrage shall not be denied or abridged because of race, color or previous condition of servitude, was ratified. William died on Monday evening, March 21, 1927, he was 58. William was attacked by a wild pig. He died at his home on 129 South Ninth Street, Richmond, Indiana. Services were held at the home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 1927. The Rev. M.S. Cook officiated the service. He was burried at Earlahm College Cemetery there is no headstone.
