| DHS offers a low cost spay/neuter/immunization program for
the purpose of controlling the pet population, as well as ensuring that
animals in the community receive necessary immunizations. Our low cost
spay/neuter program consists of giving a $25 rebate to people who need
financial assistance to get their pet sterilized. In order to
receive this rebate, pet owners must
submit proof of spay/neuter within 30 days following the procedure.
DHS
also occasionally sponsors a PAL (prevent a litter) program in
conjunction with the Denton Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. When we
have funds available, pet owners can get their animals spay/neutered
and vaccinated for Rabies at a very reduced rate, often only $10. As of October 2009, 2570 animals have been sterilized through DHS PAL programs, preventing millions of unwanted births. Sadly, unwanted pets continue to fill local shelters, and approximately 50% of the animals taken in are euthanized for lack of space. We must continue to work on behalf of these animals who are unable to help themselves. Your donation toward the PAL program makes a life or death difference. A donation of $30 neuters a male cat. $40 spays a female cat. A neuter surgery for a male dog runs between $40 and $70, depending on the dog's size, and the spay surgery for a female dog is between $50 and $80. There are too many animals and not nearly enough homes for them all. Any dollar amount helps, and each animal spayed/neutered means countless lives saved.
