Famed for his wisdom, Alviss (All-wise) was a dwarf of Nordic myth from the Alvis Mal Edda. For his hand in the creation of the weapons of the gods, he was promised the hand of Thrud, a giantess daughter of Thor in marriage. When he came to Asgard to fetch his bride however, Thor interrogated him until dawn to prove he was worthy. With the coming of the sun, Alviss was turned to stone.
