The Herkimer Diamond, silicon dioxide, is actually a type of quartz crystal. Typically, they are double terminated (pointed at both ends) and, in smaller specimens, exceptionally clear. The name first came from a large deposit located in Herkimer, NY (which are reputed to be the very highest in quality), but it can now be found in Oaxacca, Mexico and Spain. Amethyst Herkimers are also available from Tanzania and Mexico. There are more names for this stone than I care to list here, most of them representing the places where they were mined. The larger the stone, the more cracks and inclusions can be found in it. This makes them ideal for meditation.
This quarts enhances inner vision. It also increases the awareness of dreams, clairvoyance, and clairaudience. Herkimer diamonds are also attunement stones, assisting in synchronicity with another person, environment, or activity. Pieces of one stone can be distributed between two people or groups to maintain a connection, and information can be imbedded within the crystal to be recalled at a later time.
Like other clear quartz, Herkimer diamond is known to cleanse the subtle bodies. It balances and cleanses energy between the mind and body. It is also a powerful amplifier; herkimers can assist with prescience and telepathic communication.
Physically, Herkimer diamonds are said to reduce stress. It allies itself with all chakras. Those who work with or around harmful radiation may find this stone a helpful protection. It is useful for dispersing toxins within the body and rebuilding cellular structures. Herkimer corrects imbalances in the genetic structure as well as the metabolism.
