The Role of the Son in Salvation

1. The death of Jesus on the cross is our guarantee of eternal security (Romans 8:34 Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, He was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us.)

Sin is what makes people question eternal security. The problem with this thought would be that Jesus did not bear all our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:24 "He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His stripes we are healed' NASB, 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.).

Our salvation rests solely on the sacrifice of Jesus and all condemnation is forever removed:

John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; He who does not believe is judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." NASB

John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my Word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life". NASB

Romans 8:1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,"

1 Corintihians 11:31 "But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged. 11:32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned with the world."

2. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead secures our resurrection and eternal life:

John 10:28 "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from My hand."

Colossians 2:12 "Having been united with Him in baptism, you also have been raised with him through your faith in the power of God who raised Him from the dead."

Colossians 3:1 "Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God."

Ephesians 2:6 " 2:6 and He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,"

3. The work of Jesus as our Advocate in heaven:

Romans 8:34 "Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, He was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us."

Hebrews 9:24 "For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands—the representation of the true sanctuary—but into heaven itself, and He appears now in God’s presence for us."

1 John 2:1 "(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One;"

4. The work of Jesus as our Intercessor in heaven:

The Advocacy of Jesus concerns our sins, His Intercession with our weaknesses and needs. This involves our ignorance and immaturity-things where there are no guilt:

Romans 8:34 "Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us."

Hebrews 7:23 "And the others who became priests were numerous, because death prevented them from continuing in office, 7:24 but He holds His priesthood permanently since He lives forever. 7:25 So He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 7:26 For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 7:27 He has no need to do every day what those priests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people, since He did this in offering Himself once for all."

5. Jesus prays for His own and their needs:

Luke 22:31 “Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan demanded you all, to sift you like wheat, 22:32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

John 17:9 "I am praying on behalf of them. I am not praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given me, because they belong to you."

John 17:15 "I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the evil one."

John 17:20 “I am not praying only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their testimony,"

Romans 8:34 "Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us."

6. Jesus guarantees that we will be saved forever:

John 14:19 "In a little while the world will not see Me any longer, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live too."

Romans 5:10 "For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His son, how much more, since we have been reconciled, will we be saved by His life?"

Hebrews 7:25 "So He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because He always lives to intercede for them."
