A series of turn-of-the century maps of certain Twin City neighborhoods are again available. Originally published between 1884 and 1928, they graphically depict Minneapolis and Saint Paul and suburbs as they were 70 to 110 years ago.
These atlases were created for use in the real estate trade and contain amazing detail. They are drawn in scale and indicate every house, out building, street, public stairway, park, railroad and street car line, and geographic features of a neighborhood. Each map is color coded to indicate the building material: wood frame or brick and stone. The names of the real estate subdivisions and streets are shown, along with the names of some of the property owners. Section lines, ward boundaries, sewer and water lines, and industrial buildings are also illustrated.
