Mike
Myers comes out of his self-imposed career deep-freeze by
writing and starring in what was one of the decade's best
comedies. Myers plays a swingin' British secret-agent
playboy from the '60s who, after being cryogenically
frozen, is thawed out in the '90s to vanquish his
time-traveling arch-enemy, Dr. Evil (also Myers). Powers'
innate mystery-solving ability proves ageless, but his
brash, sexual urges don't translate as well, resulting in
an insanely funny fish-out-of-water scenario that his
crime-fighting partner (Elizabeth Hurley) doesn't get. As
the equally out-of-touch Dr. Evil, Myers serves up a
composite of ridiculously devious villains. Robert
Wagner, Michael York and Mimi Rogers all do goofy, comic
turns in this tongue-in-cheek homage to '60s 007 spy
flicks. Myers gives us all of the exaggerated physical
schtick of Jim Carrey plus the added bonus of wickedly
clever writing that refuses to let you escape -- unlike
Dr. Evil's ill-conceived killer-sea-bass trap. Shameless,
shagadelic comedy that shouldn't be missed, baby. - Grantster
