Design Simulation Systems is a well-established Australian software design consultancy.

We specialise in all aspects of Unix-based systems, from kernel programming to software system architecture and design.

Our development machines are Sun Sparc, and we run Solaris 2.10 and Solaris 2.9.

We use DB2, Oracle and PGSQL databases, in medical, financial and engineering applications, and the HTTP server we use for Java/JavaScript/HTML development is the latest version of Apache.

Among the off-the-shelf products we supply is a fully Dicom compliant medical image storage, retrieval, viewing and manipulation package.

Even given our experience of all of the above, the needs of an application sometimes cannot be met by using any of them. No problem. We have also written a few custom protocols, tailored for speed, efficiency or whatever, where the standard ones were unsuitable.

Our experience of web technology is not limited to just writing home pages. We have extensive experience of constructing B2B applications, for transport companies, oil companies and banks. We can setup an HTML front end, write your CGI, point it at your database (as long as it's Oracle, DB2, Informix or Sybase). And make it secure...

Mark was educated in England, and hoped to be an electronics engineer when he grew up.

After becoming a Chartered Engineer, and a Corporate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, after wasting two years playing guitar for a rock'n'roll band, he discovered that computers were now doing the job he had trained so hard for. He decided to join the winning side, and was taken in by a California startup, called Valid Logic.

In addition to writing simulation software, he designed, and taught the creation of computer models of semiconductor devices.

Having been misinformed that the government was making Unix illegal, he went to Australia, where he consulted on the vagaries of the kernel, the gentle art of Unix systems programming, and the taming of the humble socket.

While the balance of the mind was thus disturbed, he designed many client/server systems, to specifications which were described by the clients as 'impossible'.
