My Family & I

Well, my full name is Deana Michelle Zaccagnini (try saying that 10 times fast) and I was born in a tiny town in NE Minnesota called ELY. It was a pretty kewl place, but I must say by junior high I was high and ready to get out of there.
What I consider being a mini-adventure in my life was the year and a half that we lived in Norman, Oklahoma...home of the Sooners. Not that I am biased toward the south or anything, but to sum up life in Oklahoma - IT SUCKED, and we got out of there as fast as we could, back to Minnesota where we were no longer called "Yankees".
We wound up in a pretty cozy suburb of Minneapolis, Hopkins, and I think we're pretty happy here now. It's just west of Minneapolis, and gives us easy access to everything we could ever want (and never had in Ely): theaters, malls (Mall of America!), the airport, museums, restaurants, etc. etc. We've been here about 10 years now and I know I don't want to move anytime soon (even though the winters are a little long).
Before I talk on about myself, I'll tell you a little bit about my family. My DAD is a pretty groovy guy. He has an interesting job that is pretty hard to describe; he is "Director of Support Services" at a hospital in the Twin Cities. I think it's a pretty important job, he runs quite a few departments and has quite a bit of weight. You'd have to ask him exactly what his job entails though. Now that he has hit the middle ages, he is learning to relax some and has taken up golf. Boy, has he taken up golf. I think he has every piece of clothing/equipment one would ever need to be a good golfer. I haven't seen him actually play yet, though, so I'm not sure if he's any good. But he likes it and he always seems to come back with extra golf balls and a nice tan.
My MOM is a cool person and a good friend to me. I admire her a lot because when I was just a little tyke in elementary school, my mom went back to school full time, while still working and raising us brats, and got her Associates degree in Biology, her Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and her Master's in Nursing with a concentration in Education. It took her awhile considering she actually had a life, but she finished it up and did too well for my tastes (yeah, I'm jealous). She landed herself a good job with that education, too - she is the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Oncology for another hospital in the cities. She seems to really like it and works with some great employees and cancer patients.
Next is my big BRO, Scott. He's almost 30, and almost a groovy guy. I say almost because he is my brother and it is my job not to be nice to him. Since he is older than I am, he has always been my protector. I know he loves me to death, but of course sometimes he has had a weird way of showing it. Scott is doing pretty well in life. Right now he is still living at home and going to school to be a Cosmotologist. He works at Regis Hair Saloon, and always is bringing me shampoos and conditioners. :) He is also reproducing quite well to some amazing kids.
Well, now there is another addition to our family that certainly deserves a paragraph of his own. My nephew, Scott David Zaccagnini, Jr., was born on November 4, at 11:23 am, weighing in at 7 pounds 10 ounces. He is a gorgeous and wonderful being (though sadly he looks just like his father-grin), and we are all very excited to have him as part of our family. Now he's over two years old and is growing up way too quickly. He's over 30#, is walking, well RUNNING, and talking like a four-yr-old. He lives with my bro/parents half time and he is quite a joy to have around, even if he gets into everything. His big thing now is watching videos like "Tarzan" and "George of the Jungle" over and over and over... When I visit him our ritual is to watch a video and I give him a bath. 'Nuff for now, tune in for more on Scottie, Jr.!!
Now we have another wonderful bundle of joy in our family, Kayla Zaccagnini. She was born on June 18, 1999, and is a BUDDHA baby! She is so short and fat, but just adorable. At just 8 mos, she is walking and starting to talk. She loves to smile and is always so happy. She is not quite as outgoing as her brother, but just as much of a joy to be around. I will continue to update you about Kayla, too.
Nuff about other people, let's talk about ME. I am now 25 yrs old and a graduate student at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health. My major is Maternal and Child Health, and it isn't too bad for something I'm using to get into medical school. I'm enjoying my job immensely. I work nights on the floor with the new moms/babies and pediatrics at a Twin Cities Hospital (I know...three hospital workers in our family). I love it and hope to continue in the area of children once I'm done with medical school (if they ever let me in!). As far as my interests go, I think I need not speak too much about them, but just invite you to check out the links I've listed. They show the kinds of things I am interested in. Being a Christian is a very important part of my life, and I have some good links regarding that. Another important part of my life is my love for animals (especially WOLVES) and my fairly new conversion (4-5 yrs now) to vegetarianism. Of course, I also have a great interest in medicine, whether it be traditional, alternative or herbal.

Bored yet?

Take me home!
