David Bowie Reality Tour

March 14, 2004

(Very long...I'm trying to catch at least 80% of what I can in this tour...) This is my first live show being accompanied by a friend (rather than family members) XD The feeling is so much more different~ [I managed as much as I can to jot down what Bowie said, but my poor English couldn't catch everything...^^; I can only write an approximate summarize here...I'm very sorry!] Me and Yee went there at 8, but the concert didn't start until 8:30. We got the second row of seats in the last row, but that didn't affect us (more about that later). On the way there, we saw a lot of non-chinese (mostly are British, but I think there are Americans, by accent, and a few Philipinos. I think those came with their white mates...). It feels very different, cuz I've never really seen so many pple with different colored hair XD We sort of mentioned that "This David Bowie Concert seems, somewhat, a TYM replacement...*LOL*" (and we certainly didn't stop laughing after that). With so many westerners, ppl got quite (not VERY) high, dancing and enjoying, and I think that is how concerts should be :) Yee recognized a few Radiohead songs. Very nice, very nice ^^ when in the middle, the music suddenly changed--And now the concert begin...

An animation showed the band playing a certain tune (I've seen this style somewhere before...), Bowie's voice could be heard. "That's it. Let's keep it goin' for another round." And slowly the animation fades to the real people, and they too, appear on stage. The intro begins:

1) Rebel Rebel
2) Hang Onto Yourself
3) Fame

Hello, you bunch of mutherf*&#ers (note on Lennon in review section). It's been a long time 'er, hasn't it? (sorry, couldn't catch everything here, hence the sudden gap) Now here's a great group. In fact, a pretty group. Hey, there, what's your name? I can't hear you...Elizabetha? No, Daniella? OK. Doesn't matter, just a few more thousand to go. It'll be great, I assure you, on a first night basis. (intro similar to "I'll Be Watching You") No, that's not my song.

4) Cactus

Do you know these songs? You know these songs, do you? Since you're here, I'll just assume that...well, if I have to fix that, you'll know this one.

5) All the Young Dudes

You like it, huh? You know, from what I see, some of you are like *claps above head* while some of you are like *punch upwards* and some of you, *puts hands on waist and turns head left & right*. I'm not sure if that's what you're doing, but it might look different from here. I might as well let you seng the next one cuz you'll possibly F*&# it up. This is the last location of my Asia tour, so after this, it's probably going to be a long, long time since I'll be seeing another crowd like you.

6) China Girl

Thank you, thank you very much. The following song is called Reality (It seems he's not too confident that the audience will know the songs from his new album).

7) Reality
8) 5:15 Angels Have Gone

Thank you. So, uh, you know the story, right? Back in the 80s (Note about Lennon). Never knew they'd talk about it, just thought...I'll cut right into the middle of this. I did a little bit of improvisational dance over there (Similar to Kazuya in Murasaki no Sora? But Kazuya did it WAY better). It needs a lot of work, and I certainly need to work on it. I learnt it in Pedder's St. There's this little shop down in the street, and next to that shop is a place up stairs which teaches improvisational dance. I went there & took a days lesson, and I did a whole lot of 20 mins over there. So there's something I can bring back home with from here. *a bit lower voice* along with the crocodile skin bag *even lower mumble* for my wife. -crowd shouts- That always happens. *mumble again* got this giraff.....For my wife. -light shines + crowd shouts- *broad grin, then turn around* ... *turns again* For my wife -crowd shouts- *grin again* The following song is from the album "The Man Who Sold the World", and the song, infact the name of the song is exactly the same as the album "The Man Who Sold The World."

9) The Man Who Sold The World

It's been quite ironical for the last few years. It goes like, someone told me "you know how cool it'll be if we did a iconic (metalic?) song?" and I said "Yeah, that's good. You know that I smell team spirit?" *grin*

10) Hello Spaceboy
11) Sunday
12) Heathen (The Rays)

--Member Introduction: I can't take everything, but:

Members since the 70s- Mike Garson on piano/keyboards & Earl Slick on guitar.
Guitarist Gerry Leonard-gave up his university exam to tour with Bowie
Keyboardist & percussion Catherine Russell was the only one who didn't swear at the HK reporters
(she hasn't been with the band long enough)
Bassist/singer Gail Ann Dorsey sang...

13) Under Pressure

Are there any Americans here? Any of these Americans from the east coast? I remember when I was a kid (sounds funny when I talk as though I'm old). You see, any of you are like me, who consider their kid years to be anything from 30 below? Well, when I young, relatively...when I was a wee kid, me and my mates would use to run home after school, as fast as we could to catch the TV show. Any of you seen it? It's called Uncle Floyd (crowd-I've seen it!), anybody know that? No? Too bad. (crowd-I've seen it. You're not alone!) It's this show about a guy and a puppet. It's not very special, he did everything in his basement. But I always found it extremely funny. Don't know where that guy's gone now. He's slowly slipped away, like every one of us will eventually do...*slides to his knees to a kneel* (crowd-aw~~) *smile* So I've made a song out of that: Slip Away...

14) Slip Away

(At the end, he starts playing with something) Xylophone. I thought these things were made in Hong Kong. These are wonderful things. Let me try it out. *BEE~~bee~~~* "Ground control to Major Tom..." The mighty xy....*ahem* THE MIGHTY XYLOPHONE. You...actually, to be honest with you, this is not really a xylophone. Once again, I caught it in Pedder St for 2 dollar 50. There's a sign saying "Made to LOOK like a real xylophones" and I got a whole pile of it. That's the only thing I got in HK since I came here. Wait, let me put this back in...
...
Nah.
The following song is called Looking for Water.

15) Looking for Water

Thank you. You're all very nice, and a very pretty group. Next is Quicksand.

16) Quicksand

Thank you, thank you very much. A good few months ago I was browsing the Internet (as how one might often does) and I found a place called Brazilia-the capital of Brazil. It's built for perhaps 3 million ppl to live in, but each year, not more than 3 to 5 thoussand ppl move in there. So the weeds start to grow up the buildings and the trees grow near the roads. The fauna grows back and the entire place looks like this forest, apart from this really tall sky scraper--I'm thinking of all this in my head, y'see?--And this one man lives on the top. So I wrote this song in the image of that.

17) The Loneliest Guy

From the album, Low. It's the album, not the instrument.

18) Be My Wife

Another song from the same thing

19) Sound and Vision

And yet another one from the same album

20) Breaking Glass

Good, that's good. Oh, what's that? I can't see a shittin' thing. You know, these ppl have been complaining about the guitars. Don't get the wrong guitar and everything? It's like, "No~, not THIS one. It's the wrong guitar. You're suppose to get the FASHION guitar." Is Fashion fine by you? Gail, are you ok with Fashion? (Crowd: FASHION!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Ok, let's go then.

21) Fashion

Now we go to space. Ok, Gerry. That's a good guitar for this one. Remember not to get the BLUE JEANS guitar, huh? (Gerry does a funny move) Yeah, that's right. The following song is from a very famous band back in the 60s. One that I particularly like. It's called the Velvet Underground (it's brought by Warhol, right?)

22) White Light, White Heat

I like the Americans, I work with the Americans, I have so many friends who are Americans, but among those, this songs are only for SOME of them.

23) I'm afraid of Americans

(I think this is Encore?) Thank you. I think this is a song for all of us here.

24) Heroes.

Well, my love. Thank you. We haven't played this song for a long time. But I thought, it's Hong Kong, why not?

25) Let's Dance
26) Five Years
27) Suffragette City
28) Ziggy Stardust

Thank you!
